Trials HD was a dirtbike game released for the XBox in 2009, the third game in the Trials series. It featured a truly arcane easter egg/riddle. For the successor Trials Evolution, the designers needed something more, enter the Trials Evolution Riddle, a puzzle spanning four continents and 100 years.

Maybe I'm the only one? I feel kind of let down by the cop-out. It's really easy to claim there'll be an answer in 98 years.

I remember a collage of all of the Trials clues and it was all just pseudo-scientific "the universe!" liner notes that didn't add up to much.
BUT, I love that they took a motorbike stunt game and tosses in a super amount of easter egg clues to find and decipher.
And the game itself looks super fun. I tried installing it, but it kept crashing my computer. I plan on trying it again if I ever get a better computer.

From the first link "While we couldn't answer the riddle in our own words, we involuntarily answered it with our actions and efforts."

My favorite line in this: "The base game of (dirt bike racing game) Trials Evolution consisted of a number of clues that revolved around the Past." No, not "the Past"!

I've given up saying that some people have too much free time (because this isn't a nice attitude to have, I've come to realize), but I am still shocked by the fact that, if someone even slightly important holds up a hoop, it's inevitable that someone will decide to jump through it. 98 years from now it's going to be a very annoyed group of people standing under the Eiffel Tower for the sake of a long forgotten dirt bike game in order to be presented with a plaque reading REMEMBER TO DRINK YOUR OVALTINE.

Or, perhaps, the real puzzle is finding out who this person has made arrangements with.

I love this sort of thing. I've played Trials and wouldn't have ever guessed that it might lead to something like this.

Speaking of, the actual gameplay of Trials HD is super fun. It's awfully unassuming, but has become one of my all-time favorites.

It puts me in mind of The Secret: A Treasure Hunt

This is a wiki for solving The Secret, a puzzle book published in 1982 by Byron Preiss. To set up the puzzle, Preiss traveled to 12 locations in North America to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1983 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

There are groups of people all over the internet comparing clues (and not comparing the secret insights they've gleaned!) for each of the casques. Problem is, the world looked a whole lot different in 1982, so the section of fence in Place De Jacques Cartier in Montreal that makes up the brim of the hat in a picture might have been destroyed 20 years ago.
