Why is the wolf crying?

I like to imagine that that one is just a werewolf that is feeling super remorseful.

Why is the wolf crying?

Because the sheep has managed to get out of the apartment and is taking a train to anywhere else....

They are so lovely - the detail in them is amazing.

Why is the wolf crying?

Because he is lonely — both wolf subspecies formerly endemic to Japan (Hokkaidō wolf and Honshū wolf) are considered extinct.

Why is the wolf crying?

because someone put the kettle on and he knows that if he has tea this late at night he won't be able to sleep.

I honestly thought the wolf was drooling until I saw your question, and that gif was super disturbing, and now it still is, just in completely different ways.

That poor cat! Always just noticing the bird and never able to take action....

Is this the artist?
posted by eye of newt at 6:46 AM on July 27, 2015 [1 favorite]

Good find, eye of newt... although he doesn't offer much of a bio except to say that he has Asperger's syndrome, is 22 and unemployed, and doesn't eat red meat.

Also I like the advertisement for "They Live" glasses on the train. He clearly has some sense of humor.

My Japanese coworker just informed me that Japan is really like this (albeit slightly less pixelated). I'm packing my bags now.

that Japan is really like this

Well, YMMV on finding lonely wolves waiting for the tea to be ready.

The Wikipedia page for Hikikomori doesn't mention wolves but it might describe what the artist was going for in this image. Or it might just be some nature vs industry thing.

Also: You can click the images to enlarge them!

Careful not to overwater those plants.

Seriously, though, what an awesome post.

the water, the water - this artist can draw water with pixels that looks more real that pictures of real water.

Watering the plants - the animation is so beautiful, so amazing.

Sleeping at the diner - this image evoked a surprising amount of emotion. I can't remember the last time I had a day like that. Always so busy busy busy. I've chosen to never be bored, and never tired. I've chosen it. Why am I nostalgic for something I have chosen to avoid?

That diner scene, you're not alone. There is something very melancholy about it. Also, yeah, the definite choice (the salaryman studiously focusing on his donburi, the part-time worker staring at his phone to avoid having to deal with the person face down on the table) to avoid another person in obvious distress is something that is sadly pretty standard here as well.

This is why Al Gore invented the Internet. Well played.
