Keep a straight face for exactly five seconds, then krump. Like. Mad.

British electro-R&B singer/producer/director/choreographer/etc FKA Twigs has released a 16 minute video to promote her new LP, M3LL155X [NSFW]. The music is fantastic and the visuals are surreal.

Much of her music is on her YouTube channel. Two personal favorites are Breathe and Two Weeks. Her full catalog is available to stream: EP1, EP2, LP1, M3LL155X.

i have been playing M2LL155X on repeat since it came out. it ends and i just hit play again. at first i thought lp1 was obviously the superior work, but this ep has wormed its way in and i'm not sure when i'll listen to anything else.

A plus.

She's a hell of an artist. Absolutely arresting, even when I don't entirely understand what she's doing. I'm a fan of her videos for Pendulum (nsfw, content warning for rope bondage I guess) and Video Girl (also probably nsfw, fair warning that this video is set in a lethal injection chamber).

This kind of talent only comes around once in a generation.

For my fashonista-fellows, you might also like this article on her look.

Just found it because this is all new to me and I was just immediately taken, so went down a few rabbit holes. I love when you find something new that has such a profound resonance with you that you just shut off everything else and pursue it. Thanks for sharing sacrifix!

Bah! I wish I had found this before I had posted.. She did a live set on KEXP.

Wow, this is really cool.

Which makes it even more sad that supposedly professional video people can't get something as basic as their black levels right. Everything's gray and washed out and horrible, because someone didn't understand the difference between video levels and data levels. Ugh.

Can someone find me a FAQ on how to krump? My experiements with The Dougie ended up, well, tragically would be the kind way to say it. And shuffling? shudders and weeps quietly while in a fetal position in the corner

Also, what happened to NSFW (for scary old anglerfish woman)? I mean, seriously.

Wow, what a post! I'd never heard of this artist before, and I watched the film and it fed into an interesting place in me which is also fed by NIN and Janet Jackson and Kate Bush and David Lynch and god knows what else....

This is a discovery moment for me. I will investigate her other offerings. I think I've been introduced to something new that I like!

Er... I read the OP and it clearly says NSFW. Has my reading comprehension gone awry?

She's been one of Bim's Crushes of the Week: Her lyrics are adult, her videos art: textured and sometimes not for kids. Listening to her makes my blood slow down, then speed up – a singular sensation we could all use more of.

I like the tune, nice echoes of Portishead. The video also, nice echoes of Chris Cunningham.

Every generation reinvents prog rock in its own style...

This is indeed very good stuff.

Can't say more until I've heard more, but I thank the gods for new music that repays attention.

Her music is good, but the videos are what really stand out to me.

I'm gonna need Mr. Robot to finish this season and then maybe a couple more months before I can listen to Two Weeks again. * shudders *

I have the album repeating on spotify since it came out. Can't get enough of it. Figure 8 might be my new favorite song.

The woman in the video is Michele Lamy.

I had this on a playlist, followed by Prefuse 73's Travels in Constants, Volume 25 (Bandcamp; official YouTube audio), and they flowed together better than I imagined. Prefuse is more acoustic, but moody/glitchy enough that I didn't notice until half way through the Prefuse EP.

Weird. I appreciate her stuff, but her music has some sort anti- asmr thing going on. The underlying music makes me uncomfortably jumpy, and I normally like that sort of highly processed sound. Now I am having a highly stressful day, but that normally doesn't make a difference in my music enjoyment.

i find her stuff highly unsettling and simultaneously comforting. i can totally understand it being too far on the unsettling scale for some people. i do suggest giving it (or the less unsettling, lp1) another try when you're kicked back with a bowl or a glass of scotch or an ice cream or whatever that thing is for you, in a darkened room, with headphones, and see if it shakes something loose.

Thank you Jeweled Accumulation for pointing out the identity of the artist/designer in the video, so she would not be referred to as " the weird old woman". The song I can do without. Michele Lamy, however, is brilliant. For those who follow fashion, she is the the mentor/muse and longtime romantic partner of designer Rick Owens.

Note that Jesse Kanda [NSFW] did the artwork on the LP1 cover. (discussed previously and previously-er).
