Heebies, meet jeebies.

Actually that wasn't as bad as I was expecting (Not first person). I suspect this is some sort of Rorshack test.

Why am I watching this video? What is this game? Why do I feel an urge to play said game?

I am quietly astounded that a game with (deliberately designed to be so, granted, but irregardless) Atari 400-level graphics requires a graphics card with 512MB RAM.

This means that when I try to explain to my wife why I now want a new laptop, I have to explain that it's because MY CURRENT LAPTOP IS NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH TO RUN SHOWER WITH YOUR DAD SIMULATOR 2015.

...Gonna get some stares across the dining room table.

I just started that up full blast on accident while my wife and son were reading books in their respective chairs. "Uh, it's from metafilter" is not convincing anyone.

It was probably done in unity or something, which trades spec-requirements for ease of use.

Would someone mind explaining what's at the link for those unwilling to click on something so gross sounding?

Something hilarious!

I only watched the first five minutes or so of the video, but: it's a review/playthrough of a video game named Shower with Your Dad Simulator 2015: Do You Still Shower with Your Dad? Despite the gross-sounding name (apparently someone was challenging the developer to make a game based on this title; there was a MeFi post about this), the game developer kind of misinterprets the title and makes something hilarious.

The game comes in two modes: Endurodad and Dadathlon. I only watched the Endurodad part, so I can't speak for the other part. Basically, you select one of three dad-and-son pairs. The goal of the game is to get the son to the right dad under time pressure, and without losing your streak (pun not intended). The graphics are done in 8-bit style, so although dad-dongs are depicted, they are really only a pixel long and not that eye-catching.

Skipping through the video, there is surprisingly varied gameplay. Somebody put a lot of effort into this game... possibly too much.

I saw this a while back before it was on Steam. I thought I would be offended, but instead I was amused

For those afraid to click: It's funny for a few minutes, pretty harmless, commentary gave me a good chuckle. Just start it with the sound NOT turned way up.

Maybe your dad, my dad's is two pixels.

Now I feel like I really need a shower. Alone.

I preferred Polygon's take on it. Just funnier commentary overall, I felt.

The best thing about the video is how the reviewer dismisses it at first as a stunt, but the game keeps surprising him with new things and he ends up recommending it. You definitely need to watch the whole thing to see it unfold.

There's an even more weird game on steam and it's free.

Well, Justin McElroy is at this point more of a professional comedian than a game critic, so it's not surprising. Though I feel like it would have been even funnier if Griffin was on the video too.

I have a 21-month old toddler who hates being alone and screams in protest (being with his mother counts as alone). Every day including weekends I try to get up around 5AM so I can get my shower done without having to shower with my son, without always succeeding. So there's definitely scope for a Shower With Your Son game where you frantically try to get clean, not soak the bathroom and simultaneously try to stop him unravelling the whole roll of toiler paper, emptying the used sanitary towels from the bin, or drinking from the toilet. Except that such a game would be incredibly annoying.

My dad stopped using the bathroom when I was in it (like taking a bath, he would pee) when at maybe age four I said, "Daddy, your penis looks like an old man with a big nose!"

Sorry dad.

Of all the things I could reasonably expect at 7 AM, dadpeen wasn't one of them.

At least you said big nose, y'know? I think Confucius would allow it.

He's been doing comedy for as long as he's been doing games writing (or longer? I dunno) as part of My Brother, My Brother and Me with Griffin and their middlest brother Travis. When Polygon first launched I was confused to see Justin & Griffin McElroy bylines, and was like "this has to be a weird coincidence, right?" Turns out no, they're just diversely talented people.

Justin and Griffin were already established at Joystiq when MBMBAM launched, with a pretty devoted following from the Joystiq podcast. I certainly didn't mean any slight with what I said... I love what they do on both the comedy and games sides, I just feel Justin's focus has shifted some in the past year or so.

My last line reads unnecessarily aggressive too. Sorry! I did not intend it that way. Mostly I just saw MBMBAM live this weekend so I felt like I had to plug it here!

Anyhow I bought this game last night and it's a hoot, and the music is really great and Hotline Miami-esque. There are much worse ways to spend a dollar.
