Since the release of his North American debut album “Racine Carrée,” international superstar Stromae has gone on to sell more than 3.5 million albums, performed for thousands of fans in stadiums across the globe, and for the first time in pop history, will be the first ever French spoken artist to have headlined the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York City this fall. Here, he travels around NYC to sing "Papaoutai" and meet all his American fans.

I've got tickets for that show!

Janelle Monae is opening. It's gonna be the best night of my life.

The Garden is prestigious?

Well it's a famous venue in one of the biggest and most famous cities in the world, so...yes, I'd say it's prestigious for the average performer

I'm so jealous, Itaxpica. I've never had the good fortune of seeing Janelle Monae live, but I saw Stromae play live in Oakland earlier this year. It was an amazing show. Not just great music, but a terrific sense of spectacle/theatre.

This is my first time hearing of him, and wow! He has got some charisma - I imagine he'd put on a great show.

His music also reminds me a bit of Jacques Brel (another Belgian).

He performed Papaoutai on Seth Meyer's show last year but NBC took the clip down after a month. Can't find it anywhere else.

Also I'm pretty bummed that that video features him performing in like four different places I pass on a semi-regular basis, and I saw him at zero of them :(

If we're gonna have another Stromae thread, I've gotta throw in one of my favorite music videos ever.

Stromae and Janelle Monae? That's a whole lot of dapper in one place, not to mention great music. I'm so jealous, Itaxpica!

Alright I just checked that Papaoutai song out. Somehow I never made the connection with Belgium, French and the name of the song. It's definitely not Flemish! I could understand a lot of it even though I haven't been hearing a lot of french in the last 20 years, and it seems like a bit of a bummer and I wish I hadn't listened to it on a Friday. "Daddy where are you?" "did I suck my thumb too much?" "everyone knows how to make babies but no one knows how to make dads because it's inherited"? Yikes. Good music though

Stromae is a genius and a national treasure for Belgium.

Also, if you like his style. you should check out some of his online lessons. Such as this one for Tous les mêmes (the song Itapixa linked to above).

Damn, I have other plans for the night he's going to be in Boston this month. One of my favorite videos is his entrance and performance at an awards show. He's doing some pretty amazing stuff.

Knowing the back story (that Stronae's father was killed in the Rwandan genocide), Papaouatai makes me cry every.single.time.
