The Ballad of Captain Dwight-The story of Ed Dwight, the first black American trained to be an astronaut, via the memory palace
The Ebony article mentioned on the show can be read online. These days Dwight is doing just fine as a sculptor.

Hey, I wrote a story about Ed Dwight! He is now a well-known sculptor who is an alumnus of the university where I work: http://magazine.du.edu/alumni/sculptor-ed-dwight-keeps-black-history-alive/

this was an incredible episode. it made me quite emotional. I recently discovered The Memory Palace and 99% Invisible and both of them swirl around my thoughts and dreams and it makes my commute so much more because I can live in a world of interest and curiosity.

That Ebony article is a MUST READ, in my opinion. Just...read it. I also loved The Memory Palace piece on Ed Dwight.
Best of the...web, I guess!
What a story. Thanks for sharing.

It would be a shame if this thread passed without a link the documentary "The Old Negro Space Program," (YTL 10:25) which you can't prove wasn't by Ken Burns. (wikipedia)
