The iBookGuy explains how graphics worked within the memory constraints of the Commodore 64 and NES, and the Apple II and Atari 2600
His cable organisation is amazing.

One of these days I'm going to write up an article on all of the things that are wrong in this video. It's an amazing video, just that there's tons to nitpick about the technical side of fakery - C64 had some great graphics for its time, but not this good. =)

This was fantastic. Really looking forward to seeing his upcoming history of computer sound he mentions at the end now!

@wwwwolf The only issue I can see with the Blood Dragon video is that the C64 game is running too fast for a real C64. I don't see anything there that you couldn't do on a real machine.
Have a look at games from late in the C64's life like Mayhem In Monsterland which uses colours that aren't even in the C64 palette.
Or the still-active demoscene, and demos like Uncensored.

@ GallonOfAlan: yeah, most of my objections aren't along the lines of "C64 is totally incapable of pulling this off", they are along the lines of "game programmers in mid-1980s probably wouldn't have used this kind of techniques". For lack of better word, the stuff felt un-idiomatic for the era.
