These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Looked closely, but failed to see any hilarity...
Please explain, agnok47.

Was it because the picture on the page was of George Bush instead of George W. Bush... ? Do I get a no prize?
posted by drezdn at 8:23 AM on March 9, 2002

Ooh, ooh, ooh.

I think I got it.

Look at his pocket.

I don't see a thing. Spill it.

His shirt pocket seems a bit bluer than the rest of his shirt, doesn't it?

Though I take some pride in (possibly) having found Waldo on this occasion, this kind of link really annoys the hell out of me. Post the link with a [spoiler inside], and say what's in the picture. It's a time waster without a commensurate reward for those who don't happen to catch it, which IMHO is unduly annoying.

Is he doing that Nazi hand thing, whats it called "sieg hiel" or something?

So it looks like the ink leaked out of his pen? Is that it? Doy. agnok47, I demand the last 60 seconds of my life back. (Total lurk post)

Umm, actually, if you are talking about the blue-ish tint on the white shirt, I think that's just the shadow from his hand. Look closer and you'll see it follows the entire length of his arm, even across his suit...

(Unless, of course, you were talking about something else, which I missed entirely...)

It looks like the shadow of his arm to me...
posted by RubiX^3 at 9:21 AM on March 9, 2002

So, agnok47, was it the shadow? The idea of an armpit sweat stain? The secret message spelled out in the pixels of his forehead? An acrostic made of the first letters of every sentence, containing a secret joke message to Cheney?

What the hell is so funny about this?

are you enjoying yourself, agnok47?

Getting on track (hopefully): I think agnok47's point is that there's no there there. This bill extends unemployment benefits for 13 weeks, and gives some more tax cuts to business. Big deal. It's just more aid for the wealthy, barely disguised as something that's good for us all. Nothing is ever what it seems with this guy. He calls gives the country an apple and calls it an orange--because all he really cares about is helping out the apple-growers, if you will.

That's certainly a liberal (excuse the pun) perspective. This article says nothing about giving money to the wealthy. Methinks that you are perhaps adding an agenda to a pointless thread?

Other than the sieg heil, I can't even remotely begin to see anything untoward in all this.

Spill the beans, agnok, you've kept us in suspense long enough!

Well, hey, that's the part of the story that made me laugh.
posted by jpoulos at 10:41 AM on March 9, 2002

Apparantly jpoulos thinks George W. Bush just signed an Executive Order, instead of a bill that that spent weeks being torn to shreds by both parties over in that there "Congress" thingy.

And BlueTrain, methinx the agenda was the the FPP. I don't know what agnok47 was attempting to say any more than anyone else, but either he was attemping to make some sort of ideological statement and/or a plain old useless Bush-bashing troll, or else his brain simply works in ways dissimilar to those of mortal men.

(There's also the slight chance that Yahoo changed the photo on the page in between the time he made the FPP and spilon made the first comment. But a check of the other AP photos of this morning's bill signing doesn't show any other photos that are any more amusing than the one that's up there now.)

If you look at the photo long enough, a hideous face appears.

Looks like George has a cyst on his wrist. And a dirty thumb.

reminds of that martin amis book where one writer chooses a back copy of a sunday paper at random and sends it anonymously to a rival with a note saying "something in here to interest you" knowing his self-obsessed rival will comb through the paper endlessly looking for a reference to him which isn't there... though in the book it turns out there is a reference to the guy in the paper.

The photo definitely changed from when I looked at it... Before it was a side profile shot-- that I would swear was the older Bush... the new picture is of Bush doing some weird Hi-Five thing...

WOW WOW WOW. sorry folks. the prize goes to drezdn. the picture was of the elder Bush. Un/fortunately, yahoo news realized the mistake and has since replaced the image with one of the "real" president.

I'll try to be more direct next time.

So for 10 hours, the thread took all these twists and turns about a photo that wasn't there at all? Now THAT's friggin' hilarious!

Maybe if we weren't all following cryptic instructions from someone on a website telling us to waste time at work staring at a photograph, we wouldn't need economic stimulus!! Buy war bonds!!!!

Jeez, SpecialK, that ink-stain comment really upset you, huh?
posted by jpoulos at 9:53 PM on March 9, 2002

I don't know about SpecialK, but your idiotic take on the stimulus bill miffed me, jpoulos, I can tell you that:

This bill extends unemployment benefits for 13 weeks, and gives some more tax cuts to business. Big deal. It's just more aid for the wealthy, barely disguised as something that's good for us all.

As someone who's already burned his way through half of his initial 26 weeks of unemployment benefits, knowing I'll now have the cushion of an additional 13 weeks is a big deal -- a very big deal.

Oh, and in case you haven't figured it out by now, I'm not exactly rolling in dough. So this decidedly isn't "just more aid for the wealthy" (emphasis mine).
