Today, the Google homepage brings you the “2015 Global Candy Cup” doodle, in which flappy-bird-esque witches collect candy. May the best color (Green) win.

Flagged for editorializing, Blue is clearly superior.

Making one of the witches hold a cat has pretty much guaranteed that she’ll be far too popular.

Of course cats win the internets. It's a global organizing principle.

Green likes books and cephalopods, so I'll be rooting for my wife, thanks.

Shouldn't we all be on Team Blue? Abysmal performance so far.

Team yellow is WAY AHEAD as it should be. (Green is obviously #2.)

Oh yeah I was playing this last night - fun game once you get a feel for how the controls will move the little figure on the broom. I was team red and when I got the global results, it would appear most people choose team red as well (or, the people who happen to select red are much better players - I tend to thing the former explanation the most likely, that people are drawn to red and/or the red figure drawn).

They had another really fun game - around last Thanksgiving? - where you moved a character on a horse through a Western landscape, and I enjoyed that one more (much harder, just liked the scenery, really).

chrome://flags/#enable-tab-audio-muting is extremely useful if you happen to be 'all in' on the google doodle / browser pepsi train.

You are a wonderful person for this.

It's an interesting design for ultra-casual gaming. I like how you can't really fail, getting hit just gives you a temporary disable. Also the whole game is very short, what, 30 seconds? Smart design choices for a Google Doodle.

I wish more iPhone games were like this, something simple that only requires 30 seconds of engagement. Desert Golfing is one of my favorite iPhone games.

So it appears that half of the internet chose yellow.

Let the Yellows bask in their short lived glory. Team Red will emerge victorious in time as is its right.

Man, Hufflepuff is crushing it. (Come on, Ravenclaw!)

True to the original source, the collision detection is WAY OFF and terrible.

You're not anywhere near me, Raven!

Yeah, all the summer children of Yellow will swamp the results on day one, but Red will keep going back and playing over and over and over and over until the scores reflect the proper order of things.

Buzzfeed is on this kick of polls sorting pop culture characters into Harry Potter houses and I am incapable of not doing them and not getting very angry at the results. Unfortunately these don't map right onto the colors. Yellow is "Quick, cunning, and delightedly aloof" which isn't Hufflepuff material, and our green book and octopus loving friend is obviously the Ravenclaw of the group. I think you wind up with yellow being Slytherin.* Blue is cheerful, fun loving and not focused on winning, so she's our Hufflepuff, and Red is Gryffindor although that's the one I think maps on the worst.

Now I've thought about this and not work for like twenty minutes so thanks a lot.

*Like cats themselves, and unlike their owners whose devoted loyalty to a creature that at best tolerates them is classic Hufflepuff.

This doesn't seem to work on a mac touchpad. At least, I can't seem to get the witch to do anything but bounce up and down off the ground. Ah, never mind, it's supposed to be the space bar. Wasn't clear in my microsecond the instructions were on the screen.

Fun! You'd think though that using Google Chrome while playing a Google Doodle game, it wouldn't occasionally let spacebar throw me down the page. Could be just my computer, but yeah. Still fun!

I'm having the same problem with firefox. :(

ah, figured it out, it's when you hold the space bar for like a second. i guess it's based on mobile style where quick taps are more effective than long presses.
