Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 11 August 2014, 22:30h

The Paranormal Database collects and categorises crowdsourced accounts of paranormal phenomena from all across the United Kingdom. Read spooky reports of haunted hospitals, rail and London Underground ghostlore, haunted coalmines, scary trees, haunted hotels and pubs, road ghosts, royal ghosts, school ghosts, spooky goings-on in prisons, haunted shopping centres, and haunted TV studios, among many other categories.

Meanwhile, in History Today, Richard Sugg discusses Victorian poltergeists, while over at Hayley Is a Ghost Geek, British sceptic Hayley Stevens posts her own accounts of the disappointingly non-paranormal nature of many ghost stories, as well as singling out the Five Worst Ghosts of 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010. At AtlasObscura, meanwhile, Taffy Brodesser-Akner takes a trip down America's most haunted road.

This is really fantastic, thank you for putting it together.

Does anyone know if there is a Paranormal Database-like site, crowdsourced, for the US? My Google-fu yields little.

There was a book called Haunted Britain that scared the daylights out of me when I was a child because of its matter-of-fact, dry, encyclopedic approach to cataloging all kinds of horrors.

Having seen a ghost is one of the better items to drop into the conversation at parties.

yays ghosteseses

Colwick Church is weird and creepy. It's very close to the loop road, so you hear traffic, but you're in abandoned church with no roof and rusted iron bars where the doors would be and you're like "Are we in a ghostly place? Are we not? What's going on?"

And then you see a discarded Nurishment can and the moment has passed.

Also:

Sobbing Boy
Location: Nottingham - Lee Rosys tea shop (17 Broad Street)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2006
Further Comments: A local newspaper reported that staff and one customer had heard phantom sobbing from behind a wall. Puddles of water appeared without cause and cups would fall from tables without reason.

Aahahahaha.

Puddles of water = spilled tea.
Cups falling from tables = that one staff member who constantly stomped around like this was the WORST. JOB. EVER.
Phantom sobbing = The knitting group that met there, as someone realised they had dropped a stitch.

I've just read the "Have you personally seen a ghost?" AskMe and it scared the motherflippin' bejeesus out of me. I will be sleeping with the lights on and reading the rest of this post tomorrow in the nice, safe daylight.

My home of Ambleside is represented, by it's public conveniences: "Two people, their experiences separated by thirteen years, have reported a strange feeling and mild poltergeist activity around the toilets."

Oddly enough, I heard a report of a 'haunting' at work just two days ago, a colleague saw a man in black walk past him and out of the door... the only exit. It was all over before the witness did anything but wonder 'Where did he come from?'

Quote from the Hayley Stevens post about the haunting of Clevedon Pier :

"...reports of phantom toast being smelt in the Pier gift shop"

Nice.
