tiny worlds

In an unexpected but effective mix of unlikely media, Toronto-based artist Talwst has created a series of miniature dioramas inside of antique ring boxes that capture wide array of scenes from various historical periods. http://www.boredpanda.com/antique-ring-box-mini-diorama-talwst/

According to the artist, the idea for this series of miniature dioramas came about when a street vendor in Paris handed him an antique ring box and told him “I want to see what you make with this.” Talwst created a scene of a figure emerging from the sea and has been creating tiny scenes ever since.

The antique nature of the ring boxes he uses, as well as subtle details used in his tiny dioramas, help drive home his focus on history; “I want the viewer to open the box and feel they have been transported to another world,” he told the Guardian.

These are astoundingly great. The one with the cave paintings is awesome.

And now I am late for class because I couldn't stop looking at these.

As you scroll down you notice more little jokes worked in, and at the end you're presented with a pornographic Star Trek scene.

excellent- great post. I forgot the name of the artist, but in the 70s-80s there was an artist in NYC that made miniature diaramas of cityscapes on windowsills of buildings, often abandoned buildings. Such a great concept and so beautiful.

I've been making miniature dioramas since before I even knew the word "diorama." I super appreciate this post because I am having a shitty day. Feeding my miniatures obsession has certainly improved my outlook. Thanks.
