That was really cool.

That's a really convoluted way to put together a faux Mr Oizo track, fun though. His site's worth a dig through, some cool sound art stuff. For those into people doing gnarly things with turntables Clinton Green's worth a look/listen.

Perhaps I'm just super-sceptical in general, but at 1:06 when the turntable stops while "playing" audio it sounds nothing like how that would sound. I vote for "interesting idea but faked implementation".

You're not hearing the audio from the turntable, you're hearing the synth it's triggering.

Anyway, this is pretty neat. I particularly like the cowbell / drum / piezo setups.

Ah, I see, that makes sense then. I'm actually glad to be wrong about that.

Great fun (jump to around 5:00) but it is really a rather fabulous demonstration of why digital is totally changing the world. This clever device is simple to reprogram -- stop the device, disassemble the platters, re-glue the actuating tabs (allow time for drying), reassemble, re-tune, restart the motors. Need a small tweak, rebuild the device. And it's all being filtered through a digital synthesizer :-) But yes so much more fun and satisfying.

I wonder how long until at least one campaign for a DIY mechanical sequencer kit hits Kickstarter.

The optical theremin at the very end may be the best part. Ingenious.

I built tiny optical theremin out of half a dozen parts from Radio Shack once. It sounded awful, but I thought it was pretty cool. This one is much cooler.

one of those sounds wasn't electronically generated

also, make note of the digital looper devices you see when the camera pans (there's at least two being used).

I don't know, I thought I saw an Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail reverb pedal, not a looper pedal

No, it's a Cathedral reverb and a Memory Boy analog delay
