I'm confused. I thought we were hating Goldieblox because while they were pro- women in STEM, they did so by making gender neutral toys pink and leveraging gender normative songs illegally to sell their products?

Oh my god. The Mini-Misty Copeland is the best thing ever.

Plus, this inspired me to look up Jen Welter, who I had never heard of.

I kind of want it to be a thing where we wear casual T-shirts that say "Feminist" on it in a cool font when we're out around running errands or in the community, so that younger girls know we're there if they need us. Like cops, but who will go issue a verbal smackdown upon the harassing young dude-bros crowding the exit of the mall store.

Maybe we need pins. Or a hat. A rosette. Just a visible signal that you're ready, willing, and allied, so will step in if needed.

Eyebrows: not sure where you're located but you get a This is what a Feminist looks like t-shirt free when you join the Fawcett society, in the UK.

Not to derail, but I've never liked the idea of "Feminist" t-shirts as some sort of Safe-Space identifier. Or any ideology-identifying shirt, really. Being a feminist isn't some sort of Tolkien Elf-Friend status, where you have been recognized as containing some innate personal characteristic that identifies you as "safe." Upholding any set of ideals requires constant vigilance, and mistakes will inevitably happen. I worry about the brand damage of people being unthinkingly sexist while wearing "Feminist" shirts.

Anyway, the video is cute, and I've always thought that Goldieblox does more good than harm in the world. I just wish their toys were as exciting as their viral videos.
