I am down with this kind of thing. I'll be curious to see how it matches up against Battle of Olympus.

I've loved all of his other games, so I'm looking forward to trying this out when I get home. Thanks for posting!

These games are beautiful. As a Mac user I've always missed out on them, though. I note that there are Linux and OS X builds for some of the games, now. But not Hydorah.

(The new one says other platform support is on the way.)

Looks excellent. I'll going to hit this up next time I have a break from Bloodborne and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

For fans of the "save people from Hades retro platform game" genre, note also Don't Look Back.

Mac Users: My goto procrastination website for all things free and not so free games, Jay is Games, usually suggests one of three options for this problem: Boot Camp, Parallels, or CrossOver Games. Only Boot Camp is free, though, and I haven't tested any of those due to lack of Mac.

Now if you excuse me, my download has finished and I have a daughter to save...

Ooooh this looks relevant to my interests. I can one credit the original Castlevania pretty consistently....

Boot Camp is free, but the Windows installation it allows you to run is not. Boot Camp just lets you create a Windows partition on a Mac (Microsoft Windows sold separately!)

When I was a kid and way better at video games, Battle of Olympus was the one I kept renting over and over until I beat it, it was so frustrating but at the time so worth the frustration. Unfortunately now that my retro gaming skills are nowhere near what they used to be, when I revisit it it's just an impenetrable wall of frustration. I'll always think of it fondly, though.

Played four times, from the start each time:

I like it a lot, I think it is slightly unpolished, but then I'm comparing it against Castlevania I, which is exquisitely balanced. (I don't think another platformer has ever been so deliberately designed as the first Castlevania.)

I managed to make it to Stage IV on the fourth game, which might signal the game's a little on the easy side. There are interesting secrets and bonuses to find. It is interesting that you can skip Stage III. What does the 25-coin key the guy after the town do? I look forward to finding out....

The decision not to refill your health after each stage is an interestingly one, but one that I approve of generally. It does seem like there should be a health item other than the Max Health Up in Stage II though.

I like that the items are somewhat randomized.

It's a little annoying that the shield block command (when armored) is Down and not Up. The difference between the Spear and the Sword seems a bit too slight. It's annoying that getting the Spear in the Colossus section is nearly a death sentence, I would have made that section a little more forgiving. But then, I also would have removed the ability to change your jump direction in midair.

I love that 2D games are coming back. Axiom Verge was incredible.
