Cards Against Humanity Survey
December 16, 2015 6:03 AM   Subscribe

As part of our mission to advance our understanding of the human condition, we gave each subscriber the chance to answer some extremely invasive and ethically dubious survey questions. Our hope was to find a Malcolm Gladwell-esque correlation between two seemingly unrelated things. At first we didn’t find anything like that in the data. But then we p-hacked our way to statistical significance, and we couldn’t believe our eyes when we found...

I love dumb shit like this. I'd like to see actual numbers instead of percentages, but I get that it's for-entertainment-purposes-only.

Also for what it's worth I have seen 2-3 Fast and Furious movies and have read probably 30 or so books this year (only 30?! Damn). So there.

Ugh, pie charts, with multi-segment lines connecting them to their labels, and raw numbers next to percentages. I know this is just for giggles, but I find these choices make the data nearly impossible to interpret.

People on the west coast don't tip:

That's right. We actually require businesses to pay their employees minimum wage.

The penis size to candidate correlation is definitive proof that Trump supporters are a bunch of liars.

Tennessee hosts the highest percentage tippers? If you'll excuse me, imma break out my Tennessee Victory Dance.

I hate to be gauche about it, but the TVD has been collecting dust since 1919 or thereabouts.

Crash (6.1%)

Ugh.

Ugh, pie charts, with multi-segment lines connecting them to their labels

Wait till you see the U.S. maps...

How the hell does Huckabee come in third (after Fiorina and Clinton) in candidates that women support?
posted by triggerfinger at 7:15 AM on December 16, 2015

Huckabee seems like the sort of candidate that men who tell their wives which candidate to support would tell their wives to support.

This was a trick question! You can have an orgasm and a fajita at the same time.

Yes, please.

Yeah, my F&F-going crew is very well-read, too.

Ugh, pie charts, with multi-segment lines connecting them to their labels

For real, their steadfast insistence on avoiding any fills and keeping it all monochrome caused their legibility to drop right into the toilet. The maps are the worst offender, they're actually less legible than just a list of states with numbers.

As someone who once got 75% through a project before deciding that it was a bad idea to refuse to use capital letters in any header I can totally imagine the mindset that led to how crappy these maps are. They made the decision to go minimal monochrome blue and white and it looked good for the first few, but by the time they got further in and more complex pie charts and maps looked like garbage they were too sunk cost to revise them.

2/10, would dataviz again.

and with that, Mefites started paying attention.

Yay! In their Smart and Sad vs. Dumb and Happy correlation with the Fast and Furious movies they show Smart and Sad as Metafilter Blue. (almost)

Also, now I'm smarter and sadder to learn that I may be the prototypical CaH player, and I'm not that fond of the game.

Also, do you know how far you have to go from Vermont to get decent Mexican food?

Yeah, it's that bad.

wait there's no data for Fajita vs Orgasm for MD, DE, RI, HI, AK? boooooooooo

edit: there's also no tip data!

did they not get enough significant data or just couldn't fit them into the unnecessarily packed graphic?

True, but I'm guessing that very few women who let their husbands tell them who to vote for are also buying Cards against Humanity.

I bet the culprit is a very small sample size. After all, only 0.8% of the survey-takers claim to be Huckabee supporters.

Protip: It's not Canada.

Hard to get Mexican food in Maine too, but we're like the 2nd or 3rd most orgasm desiring state. Which means we're either really sexually active or really sexually deprived.
