I like to think that Family Guy would be The Joker's favorite show.

Jared Leto taking on the mantle of The Joker for the upcoming Suicide Squad Badguy Patrol movie met with a great deal of conversation when it was announced in 2014. Recent leaks from the set indicate that Leto is falling wholeheartedly into the role, taking a method acting approach to getting into the insanely dark and twisted inner life of the character. Twitter reports.

I cannot wait to hear the How Did This Get Made episode for Badguy Patrol. It's going to be next level bonkers.

He sent one of those glitter bomb things to Smith. He ordered the actor who plays his henchman to go out to a local video arcade and buy up every single "You're Unique, Just Like Everybody Else" sticker from one of those sticker vending machines.

Relevant.

Man, Badguy Patrol is looking super extreme. I just don't know if I'm a bad enough dude for it.

So, the Joker is basically a Redditor then?

Ah, the suburban Hot Topic clad villain, I remember those kids from high school. So edgy, and their wit was so sarcastic and biting.

ugh, how is this movie not out and already out of rotation already? It seems like it's been in the news for years already.

is it like a meta thing that by the end of that exchange they've really "killed" the "joke"?

Are...are the commenters playing along intentionally?

They get it, right?

Do I get it?

I feel old

So old

It took me a distressingly long time to catch on that these were not real article quotes. NuJoker really does look that lame.

Oh, holy shit:
Margot Robbie tells of us [sic] Leto's on-set "Dark Thanksgiving", a dinner he cooked for the cast and crew while still in full costume.

"The dishes were normal, like mashed potatoes and stuff, but they were in bowls labeled 'AFRICA' and 'WALL STREET'."

"I basically wanted to say like, hey, we're here stuffing our faces, but there's other stuff in the world. Real duality of man shit." Leto told us.
In the previous Badguy Patrol thread, I suggested that Leto may have learned all the wrong lessons from getting that Oscar. Maybe he really foresaw the changing face of evil.

I love that this vision of the Jared Leto Joker is basically Dark Banksy.

it's odd to just label bowls with nouns that aren't per se evil or wrong. I mean it's like if I got a bowl passed to me that was labeled "Africa" I'd be maybe think it was a set of bowls labeled with the continents of the world.

Wow, I can't believe they missed this one in the Storify list:
Jared Leto as Joker: A psychopathic supervillain. Leto described his role as "nearly Shakespearean" and a "beautiful disaster of a character"; about portraying the villain, he stated "I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn't imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing these psychological games. But as the same time it was very painful." The actor never broke character throughout filming, with Will Smith going as far as stating he never met Leto. In preparation for the role, Leto spent his time alone, listened to gospel music from the 1920s — commenting he senses "the Joker may be much older than people think" — and read literature on shamanism. Influences for the character's appearance include Mexican cartel bosses and the work of Alejandro Jodorowsky.

"Somehow the conversation had gotten onto the topic of architecture. I timidly asked Leto, 'What is your favorite style of building?' He paused for a moment, smirking, throwing one leg over the arm of the zebra-skin patterned chair he was sitting in. His answer was nearly as wild as the print. 'Brutalism' he replied, his smile coming through in his voice. He read the blankness in my stare and continued with an explanation, 'It's this totally twisted thing from like the 60s or 70s or whatever, with just all these fucked up concrete blocks. You know, it's like the name suggests, no comfort, no flourishes... no humanity.' I hurriedly licked my lips and glanced at my notes so as to change the subject."

These anecdotes are a cartoon of a cartoon supervillain. He's playing the Emo Kylo Ren version of the Joker off the set.

Which is amusing and meta but I'm not sure it makes me any more likely to see the thing.

I can't find it now unfortunately but I read a breakdown of some of his antics towards Robbie (especially) and the other cast members and the author of the article pointed out they were mostly just bullying and thinly-veiled abuse hiding behind a "method acting" defense. Hostile workplace laws exist for a reason but apparently not on movie sets was the point of the article.

After treating me to a small glass of his homemade black licorice schnapps (dark and bracing—not unlike the actor himself), Jared showed me the tattoos he had gotten for the role. I had already seen some of the work in early PR releases: the word "damaged" inked on his forehead in incongruously ornate script; a spooky skeletal jester on his pectoral; a disembodied mouth, like something out of late Beckett, stretched across his lower arm.

But there was more, much more, which had not yet made it into the press photos. I was perhaps the first member of the general public to see the vampire penguin tat on his shoulder blade, or the old-school Procter and Gamble logo engraved on his palm.

"What's that?" I said, pointing at a small figure just above his left iliac crest. He smiled and jutted his hip in my direction, and I saw there the famous comic strip character Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes, 1985-1995), represented in the act of urinating. I was puzzled to see no target for his elimination: no toilet, no urinal, no wall. The stream of pee simply kept going and disappeared over Jared's hip.

The actor's smile deepened at my confusion, and he slowly spun in place so I could trace the progress of the urine, a single line of black-gold ink, as it made its way around his lower back, curved around his right hip, and flashed across his midriff, homing in on its origin, until-

"My god!" I cried, suddenly understanding. "He's peeing on the back of his own head."

Jared Leto nodded gravely. "I am become Ouroboros," he whispered. "The snake that eateth of his own tail."

It took me so long to realize that this was parody. My respect for Jared Leto was draining out the tub, like what I felt for George Lucas when I first saw the Phantom Menace, but then a lightbulb clicked and the tub was instantly back to normal.

Don't feel bad. I read this last night right before bed, thought 'wow' but whatever people are weird and didn't realize it was satire until I read you comment.

If you didn't realize this is satire that's because you have an accurate estimation for Jared Leto's acting abilities.
