The story of my success, if it is anything, is a paean to laziness.

Christ, what an asshole.

Kidding, of course, he seems delightful and funny.

He raises a good point later in the article about his friends struggling to get recognition for their work online due to the prevalence of re-posting work without author credit. However, considering the internet is also a very good record keeper for what was posted first it seems that if any such meme goes big, the original author could always prove their claim if the work was misattributed.

I have this thing where I reflexively hate anything that uses the phrase "went viral." If I ever go viral, however, I'm sure that in the inevitable blog post detailing the experience I will spend most of my time resisting the no doubt incredible urge to use it.

haha. I like his caption a better than than "Christ, what an asshole". It's so 21st century.

"It's so 21st Century." would actually be a pretty good universal caption.

I like Frank, and I think there is a moral to the story. Even small and quick ideas can be turned into something big, enjoyable and rewarding. This was like a tweet snowball that rolled into a big goofy snowman. So tweeting dumb and innocuous crap isn't useless if once in a while it produces this kind of stuff.

He says he didn't really do much, that someone else drew the cartoons, someone else wrote the line, etc, but it takes creativity to put it all together. I think he should give himself more credit than he thinks he should have.

Pointing out that laziness is often what is rewarded is as important as pointing out that the 1% aren't the job creators.

I think a lot of blame for this can be laid on President Chester A Arthur

I think it's interesting how anyone can hit Internet fame in about five seconds by tweeting anything.

I also think it's scary and disturbing how anyone can hit Internet fame in about five seconds by tweeting anything.

It's not usually easy and anything won't do, but sometimes people strike gold like this. That's a beautiful tweet but dude was taken aback at how it took off.

It's a matter of wittiness, timing, luck, the sort of followers who might be looking at a thread you're replying to, etc. I've done a fair bit of experimentation over the last few months and starting ground up with a pseudonymous account is definitely a slog, but still fun.
