Absolutely Fabulous

Sweetie Darling, there's a movie coming. But maybe you've wondered about Jennifer Saunders. What has she done since? Well, there's Jam and Jerusalem. And, there's Vivienne Vyle. Now, a little Bolly? Just a smidge.

Wow, Saffron has grown up. I guess that makes sense... it being 20 years later and all... teenagers do have a noticeable tendency to turn into grown-ups if you glance away for 20 years.

I wonder if/how that affects the movie? (Eg the running joke that Edina's child was the grown-up in their relationship)

On an unrelated note; twenty-years?!?!-oh-no-I-must-be-oooold... :)

We've just recently been through the series again for the umpteenth time. Cannot wait for the movie!

I know this is just old hat for our friends across the pond, but it's exciting nonetheless!

For some reason I never took up smoking, generally happy with that, and until now never had a smidge of a reason or inclination to take it up.

Must acclimate to the smokes just so I can get sloshed and thrown out of the theater for lighting up at the premier.

Twenty-four years. And, well, Julia Sawalha was 22 when the show started, so...

One thing that jumped out at me on a recent rewatch: Depp had to be heavily cribbing from Patsy Stone for Jack Sparrow. Some of the mannerisms are spot on.

You can keep all your Hollywood couples, the greatest couple in show business for my money are Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson.

Just in case, there's a Dr. Who/Torchwood connection as well. Naoko Mori.

Will they bring in the Pet Shop Boys to remix "Absolutely Fabulous?"

I'm chanting as we speak. Bye-bye, darling.

Was Johnny Depp ever on Ab Fab? He very well may have been; I just don't remember. I know he made an appearance on The Vicar of Dibley, so he's definitely been on the Saunders & French payroll.

A few years ago at a very low point in my life I asked a friend for advice on how to get rid of the "mean reds" and she suggested a marathon viewing of AB FAB. She was so right. Can't wait for this movie. Jennifer Saunders is my hero.

Is it just me or was there something about Patsy that was always reminiscent of a young David Bowie?

Darling, you've misspelled AbFab on the invites! Take care of that before the Star notices!

I've loved this show for a long time, but I had no idea, until I heard her on the Rick Steves podcast, that Joanna Lumley is among the most worldly, well-traveled, well-educated, intelligent people I've ever heard interviewed. You'd never know, she's that good.

She made a series of travel shows recently that were .... absolutely fabulous.
Try to find a stream of Joanna Lumley's Trans-Siberian Adventure somewhere - quite nice!

Or you can get the DVD

When the Ab Fab DVD set came out, I watched a bunch of... now I can't remember if there were little featurettes on the discs, or if they had commentary on the episodes. Either way, I remember hearing Joanna Lumley talk about stuff, and she sounded like a totally awesome person.

Also, long before Ab Fab, she beat up a bunch of vampire zombies in The Satanic Rites of Dracula, which means that she is apparently the center of a particular Venn Diagram of British movie/TV taste.

One of my absolute favorite Mitchell & Webb sketches ever involves Joanna Lumley coming to absolute power in England and everybody has to justify their job at the Old Lady Job Justification Hearings.

"That's nice dear. But have you thought about opening a little shop?"
"That... that would be nice."

Okay, I'm excited and everything but ...having seen all the most recent series...

Pats and Eddy are waaaay too nice and relatable now. It's the usual mellowing and sanding off of characters as they get older and more popular but I miss the sheer depths of thier bile toward anyone who wasn't them.

My mother, who has very prim sensibilities and generally only watches period dramas and other Masterpiece Theatre fare, loves Absolutely Fabulous. She laughs like a schoolgirl hearing her first dirty joke.

I suspect it's because Edina reminds her of her sister, who lived in LA in the 80s and has a very Shirley MacLaine/Deepak Chopra spirituality.
