The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore observed its first anniversary with a wonderful episode last night that featured Donald Trump's pandering to evangelicals, a suggested alternative to A Birthday Cake for George Washington, and a panel discussion on the Oscar awards boycott.

I LOVE Larry Wilmore. More than any other late-night host, a lot of whom just strike me as really boring. I'm not a huge fan of his panels but his monologues? Amazing. The one where he really digs into Bill Cosby is fantastic.

What I wish though, was that it was easier to find his stuff on youtube. Want to watch Conan? Easy. Colbert? Easy. Seth Meyers? No Problem. Fallon? Have a billion and a half videos. But trying to find Wilmore bits on youtube is next to impossible and comedy central has this awful Canada-hating region locks on all their stuff. Maybe this is the year that I really embrace streaming.

Agreed. There's a lot of passion in that bit, which makes it that much more effective.

The one? "I haven't forgotten about you, motherfucker!" is practically a catchphrase at this point.

Oh my god! When he starts preaching! SO GOOD. Bless those people in the audience (crew?) who knew exactly how to respond.

This is the first time I've watched the show, do they often do panel interviews and discussions? I really dug it.

The panel is always the middle segment of the show but it has been cut down in size. Some panels work and some don't. To me, the segment after the opening credits has been expanded and that's usually the best part of the show. I think the writing on this show has grown stronger and stronger. That first big segment is nearly always a must see - they really need to promote this better on YouTube because there's so many things that should have gone viral. Also, Mike Yard and Holly Walker are solid gold contributors.

I love Larry's show and look forward to watching it in the afternoons after I get home (I'm never awake past 9:00pm so I do the Plex thing). The show has introduced me to some new (to me) and very funny people, Mike Yard and Holly Walker to name two.

Neronomius: I didn't know about the Comedy Central Canada blocking thing. Why is that I wonder?

I'm also wondering why (some?) metafilter comments from Canada are marked "[This comment is not available in your location.]". What did I do to deserve this snub? lol

I forget to watch the show, which is why I posted. Wanted to remind folks that this show is around. In this episode I loved the comment by one panelist about Robert Downy Jr. being nominated for an Oscar for playing a black man in a comedy. And another panelist responded: "That's what white people do. They play amazing black people and then win awards for it." It was so weird and sick that such a thing could be true.

Thank you for this! Because of this I started watching The Nightly Show every morning before work and starting mornings with a laugh!

Donald Trump misquotes the Bible while speaking at a Christian university
"Two Corinthians, right? Two Corinthians 3:17, that's the whole ballgame," he said, prompting laughter from some students. "Where the spirit of the Lord … right? Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Trump pivoted quickly by praising the school itself, which won him a round of cheers from the audience. His opponents and critics online, however, jumped at the chance to point out his mistake in saying "Two," as opposed to "Second."
Not really a hyuuuge thing, but it makes you look like a goon, and sets up some good jokes via Twitter.

(2 Corinthians 3:17King James Version (KJV) -- 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.)
