His map doesn't include "Area you don't go because you'll probably get shot," but he appears to be British.

I guessed that he lives in London right away and I don't even live in the UK. But maybe it's just because my city doesn't have a river.

Replace "river" with "Lake Union" and this is pretty much Seattle. Except IKEA is so far away its like 4 Post-it's over.

Also, missing Sportball Stadiums and crappy apartments for university students.

the neighborhood that everyone makes fun of because it used to be poor but now the houses there cost more than a million dollars

this is all of them

Boston: The area that used to be cool but is now full of raiders. The area that nobody goes to because it is full of deathclaws. The area that describes north of the river types as "synths."

Not spread out enough to describe most Texas towns, and usually there's a highway and a lake instead of river. But otherwise true.

You also know that because he thinks there is just one area of London where people are thought of as "twats"

The Map of Every City is pretty good, but then he ruins it by using "renown" as an adjective. WHY CAN'T I EVER ENJOY ANYTHING

The Map of Every City describes New Orleans extremely well, down almost to the shape that the Mississippi makes on its way past. He got the positioning of Highway 90, the CBD, and the French Quarter just right. Some of the other neighborhoods are swapped around a bit, but not as much as you'd think in most cases.

"Area that would totally make sense for high-density housing but NIMBY."

"Road that divides one of the wealthiest neighborhoods from one of the poorest."

"Neighborhood only described by its proper name by people who don't live there; residents use name of more prestigious next door neighborhood."

And, of course, in the US:

"MLK, Jr [way, avenue, road, highway]: Always bisects poorest, most troubled neighborhood(s). Acts as 'blame anchor' for rest of city. A place to see what institutional racism looks like, on the ground."

I may be wrong, but I get the feeling that he's a Melbourne hipster who moved to London, seamlessly melding from Fitzroy/Brunswick or somewhere to somewhere in Hackney.

It looks just like New Orleans. things are even approximately in the right place:

1. CBD
2. Uptown/Garden District
3. French Quarter
4. Arabi
5./6. The CCC aka Hwy 90
7. Huey P. (We love it because it is terrifying)
8. Mid-City
9. Treme
10. Carrollton AKA Pigeon Town
11. Jefferson/Metairie
12. City Park
13. Gretna (Hong Kong Food Market)
14. Algiers
15. Bayou Segnette
16. Marrero
17. Harvey
18. Terrytown (every chain restaurant/big box store in the universe)

Yep - I got curious enough to go digging (the Melbourne correlation was too strong to be chance) and he says on Twitter he's an architect who has spent lots of time in Melbourne and London.
