Save the fucking Curzon

"Pretty please, with a cherry on top." The Curzon is one of the best cinemas in London, but it's under threat from plans to redevelop its Soho home. In its bid to survive, the cinema has produced this original, inventive (and very sweary) video (SLYT).

As long as they replace it with a parking lot, I am fine.

Oh, for fuck's sake. The Curzon, now? The last time I called for the mass slaughter of property developers it was deleted, but really. They are a disease upon the world.

First the Troy Club, and now this?

Hurry up with that R&D, North Korea. I've got some targeting co-ordinates ready and waiting.

The cinemas in the West End have been treated pretty shoddily the past few years. This was the map of them when I was a student in the eighties and there isn't a single one that has emerged unscathed, as noted next to each. The Odeon Leicester Square is the only one with no significant internal changes but only survives on money from studios / distributors for premieres.

Having said that, the Curzon Soho (originally The Columbia) is a concrete box in a basement with no redeeming architectural features. Back when it was a single screen it was very austere and cold with quiet moments interrupted by the sound of trains from the Northern Line below. It was one of the few cinemas that was improved following its split into multiple screens. Would be a shame to lose its programming from that area.
