"IU WINS! IU WINS! For the first time in years, IU is proceeding to the Elite 8, knocking down the number one team in the country. The last time Indiana beat Duke in the tournament in 1987, they went all the way. Could it happen again?" [thanks to SportsFilter for this one. Aw yeah. Ol' Dickie Vitale must be rollin' over in his grave right about now. Oh, wait. He's not dead yet. Or is that just a matter of opinion...baby?]

i was driving home from work during the last quarter and as i was walking into my apartment complex, it was probably the last 3 minutes of the game and i could hear everyone just *screaming* in their living rooms. it was pretty cool :)

I enjoyed seeing this post, but I would have posted it like this: "DUKE LOSES! DUKE LOSES!" Duke haters everywhere rejoice as Coach K & Co.'s hopes for a repeat title are dashed by a scrappy IU team with nothing to lose. My entry in the office pool was shot to hell after last weekend, but I have a feeling two-thirds of the country just saw their pick to win it all go down. I love that.

IU will have to get through Pitt before they can think Final Four. Okay, so at this very moment Pitt is down six points to Kent, nevertheless, they will prevail. They're the little team that could.

Duke and Cinncinatti down. So much for the top seeds this year.

Congrats IU! As a Tarheel, my season was shot all to Hell anyway, so about the best I can do is pull against Dook.

and, as a teeny-weeny addendum...

KENT STATE WINS! KENT STATE WINS!

How about them Dukies? Maybe Conference USA was not tough enough? How many had Gonzaga having an early exit along with those pesky 12 seeds winning? I had Missouris but not much else. And how many had Alabama, Texas Tech, and my sleeper Michigan State, losing so early? Tougher than most to pick and the Madness isn't over yet either. Maryland has to be the favorite now along with OK, Oregon and Kansas close behind. UConn is the only sleeper left with a chance of upsetting some one seeds for the title. Any more predictions?

I was in a sports bar in Dallas as the Dukies lost - the crowd went freakin bezerk. I suspect Duke hatred has run rampant across the US...

Go Kent State! (gotta plug the MAC teams)

Token Dukie here - what's up with all the anti-Dukeness? why exactly do people hate Duke? Is it a Yankees-type phenomenon where everyone hates you because you keep winning? Seriously. I don't get it. (Well, the *Tar Heel* I get...) I hear nothing but praise for Coach K, - "great upstanding guy, amazing coach, blah blah blah" - but people seem to hate the program in general, and in a really visceral way.

was on the way to a meeting this morning and heard an interview on the radio w/ coach k. the interviewer hinted that he thought it was going to be an easy game and coach k vehemently disagreed. he said that there was a certain advantage to being seeded lower and having "nothing to lose" against the no. 1 seed. I don't think he was shocked by the outcome. disappointed. but not shocked. (that said - one more free throw! torture! oh, the agony!)

Oh well. Go Missouri. if Duke can't win, maybe an ex-Dukie (quin snyder) can.

Alright, I'm on my second post-game beer and i'm already over it.

Poor Arizona... /cry

Go, Kent State!

A) super happy duke lost. Yes, lizs, it is a sentiment similar to the anti-Yankee, Cowboy (note where i live now), Laker kind of feel. I always root for the underdog.

B) on the other hand, this gives OU (who was completely screwed in the seedings, being #3 in both major polls, yet stuck with a number 2 seed, how?) a damn good chance of going to the finals, and facing KU again. Which will damn entertaining for those of us from somewhere between Norman and Lawrence (read: tulsa).

I'm happy.

I was in a Vegas casino sports book and I thought a riot was going to break out -- everybody was so happy that Duke lost, me included! And it helped that Bobby Knight was not coaching IU.

p.s. UCLA looked horrible. Can we please fire Lavin now?

But really, mrhappy, you'll always have Cincy.

I don't follow basketball, or even like it most of the time, but I did watch that game last night (hanging out with friends in a sports bar), and it was a heck of a game--IU coming back after being down 17, and the result coming down to the final seconds of play. If every game were that exciting, I could almost become a basketball fan.

Am I the only one that thinks this tourney just became the Maryland invitational? (Except for the small matter of Kansas.)

I think it sucks that Duke lost, because I was looking forward to Maryland trouncing them in the final game, and then enduring local rioting. I don't think that the Maryland fans will riot if it doesn't involve Duke. (Not that I am all about rioting or anything, but it is just such an exciting atmosphere around here when maryland is playing dook; in the championship game, it would have been great.)

I am glad that Dook lost; I just wanted my team to be the one to knock them off.

As a Tar-Heel fan, I was planning on living vicariously through Maryland.
