Epic journey of Kunkush - a refugee cat. A story which could have been raised in a lab to strike at the heart of all those on Metafilter who love cats and a good cry. (SLGuardian)

The best kind of cat story.

Damn, most things that make me cry at work are, like, teary eyes at most, but this was full on sobbing.

It's so easy to be dismissive of animal stories, but oh my gosh...you know. These people cared enough about their cat to carry him with them through what must have been incredibly challenging and stressful circumstances, where they no doubt had to make difficult choices about what they would or would not leave behind. And I'm so happy for them that after having to surrender so much of their old life, they were able to have their pet that they loved returned to them.

Aaagh feelings, too many feelings

Who are the people who did the rescuing and paid for all the stuff like transport and care? Is this a group I can direct the rich people in my acquaintance to throw their money at?

Kunkush seems like kind of a jerk.

To be fair, he was lost and spent some time as a stray cat in Greece. That will do a number on you.

Well, he probably doesn't really get the war/refugee thing, so he's angry with them because they left him in the water and he won't forgive them until he's had like a million portions of wet-food. (But secretly he is happy to be home).

Those Golden Paw nativist cats are the real jerks.

I dunno whether to smoosh and kiss my spoiled-ass cat for an hour or lecture her on how spoiled her ass is. (Answer obviously is why not both.)

There's a really nice summary of Kunkush's story on Buzzfeed too, with lots more photos :)

My reaction at the reuniting shots was "that is definitely his family, he's happier to be in their arms than he is scared by all the strange people and flashes."

Also a Facebook page where it comes out that it was a whole bunch of caring people coming together. Such a heartening story.

No, you're leaking from the eye-holes.

whoa. I'm really impressed and amazed. Like how do you actually exactly coordinate this? Also Kunkush looks sooo comfortable in his family's arms, like a fluffball. I'm so happy ;_; Reminds me of an AskMeFi question I read about someone wanting to donate to support reuniting refugees with their pets.

This is so touching. Those posters!

"Help! I lost my family on Lesvos Island in Greece, when they brought me on their rubber boat from Turkey in November... I got scared and ran away but I really want to be with them gain. Volunteers believe I came from Iraq. I am sure my family is in Europe... My family sacrificed a lot for me to escape with them so I know they love me a lot! We need to stick together, we have been through enough and I really miss them."

I am so happy for this family and their cat. It seems crazy and beautiful that in a crisis people would put so much into reuniting them. But I think this cat and this story can do a lot of good to bring out the human in people.
