Our treatment of the first nations is something all Canadians need to be ashamed of. It's horrific.

I was up for a job with Corrections last year, made it to the interview before being (Thankfully!) dropped. One of the weirdest parts of the interview - and the whole thing was pretty weird and depressing - was when they asked about my familiarity with indigenous culture, and it basically turned into Apu's oral test for his citizenship.

Deutsche Welle's radio programme WorldLink on Saturday (begins around 16:55) broadcast an interview with Nikki Fraser, "an activist who having lost her cousin and aunt is campaigning for Canada’s missing indigenous women," who subsequent to being interviewed by DW herself interviewed Justin Trudeau at the end of January.
