Is... this real???

Yes, it's totally real. Also a pretty accurate reflection of the BPD, in my limited experience.

As a former Orono and then Bangor native, this is a pleasant kick, and I also appreciate that they acknowledge in the article that this won't work everywhere - not everyone is on a congenial jokey basis with their local police dept.

Obligatory...

p.s. Obligatory self-link. I wrote the best book (22 years ago now) on ‘Maine Justice.’

So, they should use a gold sharpie as well?

Philly PD (which is presumably much bigger and more faceless) has been mining some social media gold lately, including offering Kanye a job and creating a Hotline Bling video about not saving parking spots in snowstorms.

You used to need a local newspaper with a bored intern to get 'Police Blotter' wackiness. Now, all you need is a Facebook account (which is something I don't have - remind me to go well below the speed limit if I ever drive through Bangor, 'cause they don't like my kind 'round there).

We will be here!

Bangor ME is where Steven King lives, isn't it? This may explain a few- no make it a LOT of things.

It is extremely French to use a duck as a symbol of justice.
That is archetypal in the regions of France where I have family, so this brightens my day.
Maine is awesome!

Finally, something to like about facebook. Whoever is running that page should be commended. Great job.

The Duck of Justice!

Oh wow. I had no idea they brought DUCK-TECTIVE! across the pond and re-framed it as a cozy mystery show set along the Maine coast*.

Okay, upriver from the coast

This is very refreshing to see ... I live nearby Cleveland OH where police/community relations could use a dash of that sense of camaraderie.

I tend to read anything that includes the word, chuckle. I used to love the candy by the same name but I would always throw the black licorice flavored chunk out the back of my parent's '74 Chevy wagon, when and if my father would lower the tailgate window in order to make sure that I got my share of fumes.

This person is going on to great things. Bangor PD is doing the world a service by giving them a stage to do what they do and standing back to let them do it.

"The attacker scurried to her room and pulled the blankets over her head pretending we were not knocking. HINT: We really have the ability to knock for a long, long time. No one wants that, so just get up and answer."

I was just about to post that same quote, schoolgirl report, and note that I heartily wish more police departments would realize that a great attribute for a police officer is . . . patience.

"A woman who was asked by Officer Haskell, how much she had to drink tonight answered in a most interesting way. She said, “Not as much as you think.” Later, she admitted that she only had four, 22 ounce, Budweisers. Oddly, her blood alcohol content was much more than you would think and Haskell believes that she might have miscounted either Budweisers or ounces."

"K9 Aki must have found the post about Jovic the bomb dog being jealous about TMA (too-much-aki) on the BPD FBP (face-book-page). Aki wanted to have an all out rap throwdown and, 'bust some ryhmes' to prove which K9 was superior.

Jovic wanted to have a poetry-slam and specified that it could only include original work.

Since writing their own poetry would be difficult without thumbs, Aki sent Jovic the ol' "see how long you can balance the Milk Bone challenge."

We await Jovic's response. We are expecting, Elizabethan era, prose.

The men and women of the Bangor Police Department shall be here."

Between this and and last year's We Are Bangor video, I'm feeling like I have unfairly discounted Bangor my whole life as being just as boring as Augusta. Bangor seems to have a pretty good sense of humor.

BPD was in fine fettle this past winter, giving excellent advice to those south of us who were getting some snow.

Bangor is way better than Augusta! They've got a truck stop that is basically a Maine treasure, Dysart's, and a Hollywood Slots/Casino!
