I wonder if he agonized over just WHICH Buffy should be on the sign...

And, I was sure that the signs would include these folks.

Yeah, that's not the REAL Buffy !!!

Yes, I was surprised he used "Movie Buffy" but even more surprised he included "Bill Cosby's Cliff Huxtable" according to the article. But he reportedly did 70 different signs, of which we've seen only 11 so far, so there is more to see. I hope we get a lot more pics online...

I was too, but then I noticed that the article was from June 2014, before Cosby's alleged crimes became public knowledge.

These have definitely been around for a few years. Some them are almost as faded as the originals.

A little googling and I found the artist's page . He also has some on his Instagram.

In a fair and just world, this would be how street signs look.

Think about it. If you, as a little kid, knew that the Flash, or Spiderman, or Wonder Woman was looking out for you in your neighborhood - wouldn't you want to be out looking for them? As a kid, I'd be actively out and about. And I'd make my mom and dad come with me too if they were concerned that it wasn't safe on my own. But I'd be out, meeting other kids and asking them for tips as to where they might have seen signs of our neighborhood protector. I would be actively building community over these signs...

... instead of hiding in my house, staring at my neighbors through the window with my binoculars trying to spot the rapists.

I mean, its so simple. Its relatively cheap... The regular sign goes to just a black and white (instead of that additional blue eye staring at you and judging how much of a criminal you are) and you affix existing decals to the sign.

Thank you, samhyland. On his instagram page, the oldest picture seems to be the first Neighbourhood Watch, with a random collection of superheroes. It's a challenge to identify all of the Watch pics, but there are 1960's TV Batman & Robin, Robocop, Chief Wiggum from The Simpsons, Beverly Hills Cop, the Ghostbusters logo, TMNT, Captain Planet, Thundercats, Dick Tracy movie logo, a lot of Transformers, Hulk, Wonder Woman, Care Bears, whew... just going to mention my favorites from here on... Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, SpiderMan, Kindergarten Cop (best choice for Schwarzenegger), Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks, AstroBoy, Mighty Mouse, Leslie Nielsen in Naked Gun, MisterRogers, Judge Dredd, Bruce Lee, Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids (but I don't see a solo Bill, good), Turner & Hooch, Starsky & Hutch (nice juxtaposition), Kirk & Sulu for Star Trek TOS, Super Grover, Doctor Manhattan (well, there's ONE of the Watchmen), the Village People, the original Scooby Gang, the 4th Doctor, Thunderbirds (well, I, for one, am GO)...

Very different, but for whatever reason Wonder Woman and Mr. Rogers are my two favorites.

We had some beautifully arted-up watch signs in my neighborhood. I don't know how the artist would have done the work without getting caught. They're faded and graffiti' over now.

Get an old neighborhood watch sign, art it up in privacy of studio, then in the dead of night when the neighborhood isn't watching switch out a different boring sign with your fancy sign. Take the boring sign back to your studio, rinse, repeat. Sad they're faded now, but you did good documenting them.

Toronto neighborhood watch posters are already look like they belong in Night Vale, so much so that I've been considering this myself for a while.

Anyway, I salute this effort.

Of course, if you're going to play around with Neighbo(u)rhood Watch signs and you want real PROTECTION, you don't want Watchers, you want Moderators. (self-link, self-created from MeFi profile pics)
