Man saves dog. Dog saves man.

Eric's life was lonely agony. They said he'd die in five years. Then he met Peety. (Via.)

Good dog, Petey. Good boy, Jake.

Aww.

My pup's been bugging to head out for our walk all day but I'm all, "No, sweetie, we can't. It's too rainy and blustery out."

Alright, alright.

Thanks, Peety.

Holy shit, though: "I'm going to miss my connection because you're too fat."

How could you look another human being in the eye and say this, let alone a situation where you'll have to sit next to them for the next hour plus. That's straight up evil.

Awesome post, thank you.

1. I think the dietician rescued everyone. Pretty awesome out of the box thinking.

2. Funny how someone can realize they're a "dog person" later in life..

3. He's lucky Peety died quickly and at home

4. That's some high-quality camera work with Jake. Drones for a dog story??

5. Good for him!

I saw this earlier in the week and it was a real tear jerker for me. A big component of me getting healthy was heading out for a regular walk. I have four goons who are happy to accompany me and encourage me in that effort.

My heart also dropped when I realized "hey, where's Peety" and realized what that meant.

I watched it twice and I think I cried more the second time. A wonderful piece, thanks for posting.

That made me not so grumpy at all. the stray dog that adopted me got me through a difficult divorce and was my best friend for 17 years. I still miss him.

I love dogs. I adopted a shelter cat to save my own life (and that she did) ... But a dog is a special noble beast. Thanks, Petey.

Eleven months ago my wife and I had to put our seven-year-old border collie to sleep, when he went from seemingly perfect health to shit there's actually cancer everywhere inside of a week. We held our friend today as she had to do the same for her sixteen-year-old (our late pup's partner in crime). The last 24 hours have been such an overwhelming blur of new and relived pain.

And yet I regret not one single minute of it. That's how much I love these stupid, weirdly-smart beings, these stinky creatures whose smell brings me so much joy, these annoying burdens that I would do absolutely anything for, these companions who will jump on the sofa to cuddle and kick me away at the same time, these friends who might have no concrete knowledge about what's troubling me and yet understand it better than any human I know.

These fucking amazing fuzzy paradoxes. It makes it somehow appropriate that I hate nature right now for giving us so little time with them, but love it for giving us time with them at all.

I had to make The Decision about our 19 year-old terrier a couple of years back. We have a young-as-can-possbly-be border collie pup arriving in a week's time. The kids have just really missed having a dog... me, I'm the cat person, and am just hoping that this one isn't as stupid as a stump...

Mod note: Couple comments removed; I think maybe this isn't the best thread to dig in on the what-about-the-lousy-rescue-animals thing, much as it might be a good point of discussion in a different context.

Wonderful story, my mice importers, (I mean my cats,) have their lifesaving qualities. They are noble creatures.

Aww, man. Dogs! Once again I find myself thinking that they're humanity's top achievement.
(Not to disparage cats, because what a glorious accomplishment of theirs taming humanity was.)

And here's my Wilson being all goofy and joyful on the beach, for anyone who needs a (shaky-cam) virtual walk with a very silly and happy little dog.

Oh man, dogs are the best. I can't remember when I got my first dog, a little terrier mut, but I was so little when I slammed my thumb in a car door I could see between everyone's legs as he came haulin' ass across the barn lot to share my troubles.

Then Jack the Bullmastiff, did more to moderate my PTSD symptoms than the shrinks or pot did together. If there's a heaven, dogs have to outnumber people by a huge amount.

Aww, this is so great. It was especially fun realizing that Eric and Peety (and now Jake) live here in the Seattle area. Jake even has a Wonder Walker harness, which are made here and which are amazing (you go to the dog park here and every other dog is wearing one).

Please give Wilson a hearty dose of petting and tummy rubs from me. What a pal you have!
