THE LAB: Shifting Creative Thinking Behind The Lens (MLYT).

Shoot outside your comfort zone.

When it comes to photography, there’s no end of courses, videos and books that aim to help you develop your technical skills.

But what if you really wanted to push your creativity? How do you really shake up the shots you’re taking, beyond apertures and histograms and perfect exposures?

To find out we created The Lab, a series of experiments that are designed to take you out of your comfort zone, and get you thinking – and shooting – in a different way.

THE LAB: BLANK - Creating something from nothing

THE LAB: MINDFRAME - Think first. Shoot later.

THE LAB: EVOLUTION - Growing creativity one photo at a time

THE LAB: DECOY - A portrait session with a twist

I enjoyed these (and I shoot Nikon!). Particularly the first one, with the empty room - one of my favorite early photos I shot, when I just started playing around with a camera (actually a Canon, a point and shoot) was just of a white wall with the macro setting turned on. The shadow and light, and the very subtle texture of the wall, created art out of something incredibly mundane. It made me realize this was a hobby I wanted to start taking more seriously, because it showed me parts of the world I would never see otherwise.
