(the titles for deadpool were pretty great, but overall I thought the 4th wall breaking and metaness of the movie as a whole was a little on the nose and got kind of annoying, and I worry for Negasonic Teenage Warhead because I like her a lot but she's eventually going to turn 20 or die.)

This was a great piece - just technical enough, but still informative.

Seconds into the credits, when I realized the shtick (e.g. "an overpaid tool"), I laughed so, so very hard. Can't remember laughing that hard in a movie in a long time. It was almost cathartic.

I hate myself for thinking this, because I am so tired of comic book movies, but that opening title sequence was very nice and I might have to see this movie.

I really do want to see Keira Knightley as Cable.

You know X-Men are allowed to change their monikers, right? Otherwise Jean Grey would still be stuck as Marvel Girl.

Having now seen it twice in the theaters, I've got to say, Deadpool holds up really well on a rewatch (even when people keep bringing their damn preteens aaaaargh); it's not just about the jokes coming out of nowhere. I'm looking forward to owning it on disc.

I don't think that's established canon anywhere outside of the comics -- a brief search didn't show any evidence of name changes in the animated series or movies.

Also, how is she going to find a better name? Negasonic Millennial Warhead just doesn't have the same ring.

I seriously cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciated this movie. I was having a really terrible, drama-filled, horror show of a week and it somehow managed to be both funny and cathartic from the get-go, titles included. I walked in having little idea of what to expect and I was super, super pleased.

I don't go to the movies too much, but I saw this. I found it to be one of the better superhero movies in a while. After starting with this scene, the movie jumps around in time, and we eventually get back to this opening sequence in real time, and it makes sense. Lots of payoff in the storytelling.

In other words: Highly recommended!

People get all uptight about spoilers but reading detail about that opening sequence made it much more interesting. Really interesting discussion about comic timing, and leaving stuff out being as or more important.

I thought it was going to be a link to this article by the guy who created the Deadpool logo, which I though was pretty interesting.

/Drop of related link that I've been meaning to create an FPP about but am I either too lazy to do or too unsure if it's worth a whole FPP.

Return the favour to Monster Magnet and pinch one of their old song titles? Off the top of my head I'm thinking Superjudge, Baby Götterdämerung or Freak Shop USA work. Probably not Ego The Living Planet though, ha!

My favorite part of the leadup to the movie was that Marvel put up a billboard reading

💀💩L

And followed that up with online ads for SKULLPOOPL.

Ego the Living Planet has been a Marvel character since 1966, although the movie rights probably belong to Disney right now.

Baby Götterdämerung would be a pretty cool superhero name, and would suit NTW's (cinematic universe) powers, too.

Yes. AKA Marvel Girl, AKA Phoenix, AKA Dark Phoenix.

It was the start of school vacation. It was Valentines Day. I dropped our kids off at the grandparents, got home, gave my wife flowers, a balloon and a stuffed bear. We had dinner reservations. And my wife says to me the most romantic thing she could have said to me.

"Cancel the reservations, lets go see Deadpool."

She gets me. She really gets me.

Did Guardians of the Galaxy start this new trend of playing nostalgic 1970s classics completely out of context in action/sci fi movies? (The Martian did it too, but it was annoying in that flick IMO.) thought).

I didn't read the article because I haven't seen the movie yet, just the trailer, but:

Did they really just juxtapose the phrase SOME DOUCHEBAG with a reference to Rob Liefeld?

Cause, if so, that's the funniest thing since ... I traced some porn and put pouches on it.

The Martian did it too, but it was annoying in that flick IMO.

While GoG did it as a specific directorial choice, not really connected to the source material, The Martian did it because it was actually a plot point from the book.

I have to admit, I've not been really into seeing this film until now.

I've not many people who have not enjoyed it.
I've also been surprised at the love given to it by people who basically come to see cape films with me grudgingly.

It's an end-credits thing.

Huh.

We ended up going tonight and laughing quite a bit. The line about which Professor Xavier it was going to be might have been the best thing, though it's hard to choose.
