Capsule’s Pride (Bikes) is a new mixtape of Akira-themed remixes from Toronto, CANADAAAAA!-based producer Bwana that has just been released by Glasgow-based LuckyMe Records. If you don’t want to stream it on Youtube while watching minimal music videos derived from the manga’s art, why not download it here (scroll down) and listen while browsing through the Otomblr.

Akira is just such a soup of visual invention. (Kind of like Star Wars that way.)

If someone could collate all of the original music videos based on Akira I would appreciate it. I came up with three before realizing I don't watch any music videos.

Bwana is amazing.

"Baby Let Me Finish" is a future bass epiphany (find your best speakers with the best bass.)

My JBLs? Nahhhhhhh. They'll happily chew this stuff alive all day long, no matter how much the neighborhood association complains.

I thought discovering the Kleptones had uploaded a new Hectic City was my musical highlight of the week. Little did I know!

Missing “japanimation” and “magna” tags

Fixed. Also added the “manga” tag to be thorough.

Sampling Geinoh Yamashirogumi is a fantastic idea. Some bits of the soundtrack lend themselves really well to this interpretation.

There better be some rasera in this.

Damn, I wish my JBLs were not under a sleeping baby right now. BTW, Metafilter, I approve of your taste in audio reinforcement.

Tck.

Real fans would've used the original audio, not the *ugh* English dub in their remixes, he said, not at all snobby.

On an unrelated gripe, why aren't the Akira manga available electronically?

Akira beats *and* new Kleptones?! Is there no way to mainline this all in a compressed digital burst?!

Ah, that's the source of the lack-luster vocal samples with weird pronounciations. I get that the listening audience is probably predominantly English speakers, but for utterances of "Ka-ne-da" (ugh, just typing it makes my fingers itch) you could switch to the Japanese voice actors.

Still, the production is fantastic.

And am I imagining things, or was the original download hosted as a Tor (something.onion) link? The download page changed, probably making it more accessible.

The mixtape (or perhaps only a few of the tracks) is roughly a year old; this is the official release. So it’s certainly possible that you’ve seen it circulate somewhere before this, but as far as I know this is the only site provided by LuckyMe that’s been dedicated to the download. (Incidentally, it just made FACT’s list of the 25 best releases of the year so far.)
