Ok. This is awesome. I no longer need Top Gear. Seriously. Two in, and this guy needs his own show. Same cars. Own show.

Yes, I forgot to add the warning: you may not be able to do much work today.

Mr. Regular does freelance for Road & Track now, so hopefully that'll work into something big for him.

I've been subscribed to them for a while. I'd say stylistically, they owe a lot to RedLetterMedia (which Mr. Regular has acknowledged) - the juxtaposition of a psychologically unhinged maniac against pedantic technical analysis helps to offset the feeling of pretentiousness that comes from over analyzing anything to this degree. There is some very funny stuff in there - often born out of some very very dark humor. That said, it's definitely not for everyone - often it gets too gross for even me to stomach. They've gotten much tamer overt time though - the additional attention and writing gigs has forced him to soften up a little.

There's a lot of in jokes, some of the videos towards the end of their 'starting' out period read like an undergrad lit student stretching for filler... but there's really nothing quite like them in the automotive space. I think they definitely qualify as 'Best of the web'. If I had to pick a favorite video, I'd go with Which Corvett is Best Corvett. Synopsis: Mr. Regular, in character, is invited as a celebrity judge at a very large Corvette meetup in central PA. There are some inside jokes... but it's largely accessible and plays to their greatest strength: lampooning the absurdity of car culture.

Which Corvette is Best Corvette is the perfect microcosm of a single model car show.

In my most humble classic car owning, classic car show attending, classic car show showing opinion, Corvettes are the worst cars at every show. Not their owners, just that there are so. many. Corvettes. at shows no matter the time, the place, or the invite list.

And there are always a dozen or more Corvettes, mostly current models, at every Cars and Coffee I've ever been to - so my favorite Cars and Coffee event is one that puts any car older than 1990 at the very far back of the parking lot. The back is always full full of modern Corvettes and their foreign companion, modern BMW M3s.

They actually acknowledge that the end of the last series. The first episode of series 10 has Mr Regular reviewing... I think a Subaru Brat? But, having eaten a whole bag of plums and trying to do the review before nature takes its course. I thought that detracted from the review. Luckily, the rest of the series has been a bit more toned down.

Yeah, I don't feel like the actual car reviews nowadays have much of a shtick at all, other than wandering into random digressions sometimes.
