If it's not enough to have made personal avatars based on characters from Peanuts, The Simpsons, South Park and MeFi Favorite Cartoonist Boulet (previously; BTW Our Boulet has just won this year's Cartoonist Studio Prize, but I digress), Cartoon Network is celebrating/promoting the revival of its classic toon The Powerpuff Girls (but without the original creator or the original voices of the girls, I digress again) with a webapp you can use to make yourself into a Powerpuff Girl... or Powerpuff Boy.

Yes, I made one. And it was very cute. But if we're going to be honest, a perfectly accurate representation already exists in the Powerpuff universe.

I am SO HERE for this and for the PowerPuff revival. My avatar is glorious.

Good news about Boulet. I recently took the plunge and read up the entire web comic from the beginning (and I bought some stuff; designed in France, made in California, delivered to London via Stuttgart... now I'm digressing).

I made one of these, but I pulled mine off Twitter after CN aired a Powerpuff Girls episode that was transphobic.

...or the original theme, I understand. But I saw Bis play it live at a railway museum in Derbyshire so it's fine.

Oh, man, really? My kid watches the show and I'm iffy on it for several reasons—the mayor's exaggeratedly sexy assistant who is always shown from the neck down, for instance. That sucks!

Apparently there were two transphobic episodes. Which is NOT the Powerpuff Girls I remember.

The new Powerpuff girls show has none of the original writers/animators/directors. Craig McCracken's only credit on it is "characters by".

It's a case of Cartoon Network exercising their IP rights for the Powerpuff Girls property.

Ahem. The proper term for a male Powerpuff Girl is Rowdyruff Boy.

Oddly, my Powdery avatar looks basically exactly like me, except my head isn't quite as round and I do have a nose.

They recently did an episode that was supposed to be about trans issues that ended up being hella transphobic. If it's okay to mention, I wrote an article about it here. But yeah -- it appears they didn't actually approach anyone who was trans about the episode, because, ugh, yeah, it's pretty bad.

(What's worse: in an article prior to the episode airing, the PPG reboot creators explicitly called the episode out as being about trans issues — and then mentioned Steven Universe as a template. Ouch.)

What a disaster. Thanks for sharing, Rev.

Ugh, I just saw some clips of the re-launch and it's terrible. The original series had its problems, too, but what I've seen of the new one is pretty disappointing.
