Moving On: the story of a life passing, told in yellow yarn

The stop-motion animation video for James' "Moving On" is the story of a life passing, told in yellow yarn. BAFTA award winning Scottish animator Ainslie Henderson explains what inspired him: It’s 2014, and I’m on the phone to Tim [Booth, lead singer of James]. He is describing how the band came to write MOVING ON, and what the words mean to him. The story he tells me is deeply moving; one thing that stayed with me is his describing death as a birth. Days later this conversation echoes around my mind while I’m listening to the song as I walk past a typical Scottish woollen knitwear shop. My eyes flit over a ball of wool in the window while the word “unwinding” is sung....

I'm not crying over yellow yarn, you're crying over yellow yarn.

I feel so grim and voyeuristic saying it, but the songs about Tim's mother's decline and death are some of my favorites since James reunited. He does musical autobiography so well.

This made me cry too! Wow was that awesome. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into making it.

This is really good. It really got to me.

Under today's date on the calendar, my wife has written "♡ Dad 8 yrs." Her dad died eight years ago today, before I ever met her, and I never had a chance to meet him. I really wish I had. Everyone says we would have really liked each other.

It feels strange to miss someone I never met.

Thank you for posting this.

I'm happy to be able to share this--someone shared it with me recently because they know I knit, and I found it incredibly moving and beautifully done. It made me cry, too. I am glad people like it.

My father is in critical condition after heart surgery at the moment. If you're like me, save it and watch a few months from now. Looks awesome, but nope. I made it to the yarn EKG.

Oh shoot, Hal Mumkin, I didn't find that previous post when I was putting mine together and checking for doubles. I know what happened though--I spelled Ainslie Henderson's name wrong in my search for doubles, but corrected the spelling for the final post. Sorry, orange swan!
