What’s all this talk about Cybertronians? It’s the Gobotronians who need our attention! Maybe they need to be revamped in a fresher animated style. Or, how about this fresher animated style? Wait, we forgot about the Rock Lords! What do you mean “narlies?” Perhaps what the Gobots need is an edgy animated treatment! With Wolf Swords! Or, perhaps a much higher end toy treatment! #KeepMefiWeird Wait, what's Megatron doing in that last picture?

Oh my god they're Rock Lords!

I just dug up two of those while cleaning my parents' garage, kept them to give to my son, and although I could recall playing with them I had no idea what they were. "Boulder" and "Sticks N Stones", apparently.

Terra-Roc owner here, going from that picture.

Recall that I had a black/grey Micro-Change Microscope which was the basis for Perceptor too. The real red Perceptor always looked wrong to me when he arrived in the Transformers comics. Odd to feel nostalgic for the lesser-loved toys that didn't have heat-activated insignia!

Missing Zod, the truckasaurus-ish evil gobot who...ate good gobots? And he had a big red button on his chest that, if you pressed it while he was rearing back, would shut him off? I'll give it this: that thing reminds me of no other toy.

There is a recurring "embracing the off-brand because it's CLEARLY superior and will win" theme in my life in which purchasing Gobots before Transformers and signing up for a paid app.net account are memorable chapters.

They won me over with Van Guard the transforming tour bus but then lost me again with Hans-Cuff the transforming cop car. I'd love to have been to the GoBots Naming Committee meeting where the options were:

A) laziest possible name (Blaster, Tank, Scorp, Dumper)
B) Puns (Good Knight, Van Guard, Small Foot)
C) Lazy Puns (Hans-Cuff, Dive-Dive, Fitor, Cop-tur, Royal-T)

I can't say I'm really an afficionado of the GoBots. I discovered the first DeviantArt gallery I posted (from Laurent Libessart) a few years ago and was really taken by the artist's skill. Over the years since, I've collected a few links about the GoBots here and there, and then was inspired by the #KeepMefiWeird idea for the month of May.

As a kid, I was definitely someone who shunned the GoBots in favor of the Transformers. I remember a friend and I would imitate Scooter's voice alot, which we found really silly and grating. Imagine the nerdy younger kids from "Freaks and Geeks" and you will know exactly what we looked like.

As an adult, I appreciate the corny names more and I also like that the GoBots had some more out there, but still realistic, vehicles, such as the limousine in the art links or the submarine referenced by Mr. Encyclopedia.

middleclasstool - I am right there with ya! I loved Coleco's Sectaurs toys! I had all of them, except Mantor. Even the giant playset. My parents found the whole line, save Mantor, on clearance at Big Lots for my ninth Christmas. I also really liked Visionaries, which went nowhere, as well. I did not like He-Man, which was basically the successful version of Sectaurs and Visionaries, being a high-tech fantasy line.

I can still sing the M.A.S.K. theme song verbatim. Kenner, Hasbro, and Tonka pretty much owned my childhood imagination.
