I can't wait for the Fug Girls to get rolling on this, but I've previewed all the photos on Vogue's website and all-in-all, I thought there was disappointingly little that was on-theme in an interesting way.

Surprisingly, I think Kim Kardashian might have seriously hit the home run here. Yes, it is very on point, but it looks great, fits well, and is barely naked at all. That's a shocking turn of events considering she's the Fugging Worst Dressed Person in the World two years running.

Yeah, I was hoping people would get all techy experimental with it - light-up dresses are COOOOOL (I want Claire Danes' dress as my wedding dress) but that's like scratching the surface of tech & fashion potential.

I really want Lady Gaga's circuitboard jacket and I could wear Taylor Swift's dress all the time. Willow & Jaden have on-point jackets (plus an unintended reference). And with some adjustments Emma Watson's outfit hits the sweet spot of "spy superhero chic".

What beautiful clothes. But how could anyone resist coming as Robot Maria from 1927's METROPOLIS? And I see not one! Though maybe not very forward thinking, smile...

Yeah, but my fav tweet about Beyonce's dress has to be this one:

Those aren't contacts. The lizard-illuminati simply unmasked for one night. They chose to leave their normal everyday meat-suit behind for a night, to let their true selves shine.

A higher than normal ratio of people who made me think 'Why did you even bother to come..?'

This is Fashion Prom, celebrities! A standard pretty dress is not what's being looked for here. We're all poorer for Rihanna being on tour, imagine what gorgeous batty fashion insanity she could have pulled with that theme.

Why in god's name would you agree to host fashion's party of the year and then show up in warmed-over Hot Topic goth crossed with Pretty Woman DVD cover chic and 3-years-old-trendy shoes (plus a spike heel because god forbid you wear flats)? Why? Why? Why?

Meanwhile Beyoncé is over here giving me 31st century Glinda like the true good witch she is, Rachel McAdams is stunning, FKA twigs is perfection, Nicole Kidman has somehow rediscovered her fashion powers (that cape!!!!), Sarah Jessica Parker is telling a story no one else can hear, and even Katy Perry at least took a freaking risk. Oh and hey none of them went with the most obvious, shallow interpretation of the theme (oh hey I'll wear silver like a machine!!!!). This year was mostly dull as dishwater.

Come to play or don't come, Taylor.

and Blake Lively what is that I can't even

Oh and how could I neglect to mention Zendaya, whose look was basically "everything that was excellent and beautiful about the 70s." Slayed!!!!!

If by flawless, they mean zits and swimming in visible sweat, ok.

Sarah Jessica Parker on the story behind her Met Gala look (NYT).
What is technology? And what does it mean when applied to fashion? We didn’t want to simply apply lights and actual, physical technology on me. We didn’t want it to be about the electronic screen or something that could turn on and off. We wanted it to be about the technology of thought, of application, of fabrication. The technology of the hand and the machine.
Now THAT is how you do it. I love her thoughtfulness.

I still don't get SJP's outfit. From the article linked to above her team employed" Le Studio Anthost, who take the idea of old-fashioned couture embroidery and, with technology, apply it to fabrications using paint." Okay, but I'm not really seeing any evidence of that unless it's the sparkly gold striped applied to the cuffs. I guess the gold ribbed details on the white outfit might also be painted on, but even if it is, it's not enough to really make the tech-meets-fashion mark. I have to give her credit for a unique silhouette but I think something of the theme got lost in translation.
