Most mascot costumes are boring. Facemakers creates custom costumes guaranteed to satisfy. Ten kinds of bugs! Natural and artificial sweeteners! Maalox and wart removal gel! Money! Female heads! Male heads! Nose heads! Worried about your budget? They have some clearance items, maybe only slightly used.

A life size June Bug costume is only 200 dollars on clearance! Things I never knew I desired...

This is wonderful and creepy and fascinating :-)

Ten kinds of bugs!

And that's not even counting all the various bugs that live inside the costumes.

The New Year's Baby in clearance is nightmare material. The hair looks like three lesions in the photo.

At first I was in enthralled with the two "female executive" heads but then I scrolled down to Create A Person: realistic > caricature > unflattering!

You can't afford NOT to get a June Bug costume!

"The New Year's Baby in clearance is nightmare material."

The New Orleans Pelicans have Pierre the Pelican who was originally super creepy and intimidating and was given a makeover to appear less ... so.

To make up for that lack of creepy the Pelicans will trot out a seasonal mascot, the King Cake Baby. New Orleanians are still divided between 'embrace the insanity' and 'kill with extreme prejudice'.

Damn. I was really hoping the heads would not be just a human-ish head large enough to wear over your own, like some kind of Hannibal Lecter-furry crossover, but a really giant head that covered your whole body. No hands, no visible legs, just a giant head. Get that and one of those hoverboard things and you could really have a great time.

I'm not saying it's a moral imperative for everyone to get the terrifying baby costume but can you imagine like five or six of those just walking down the street at you? You'd feel menaced. How are you going to menace someone in a baby costume when it's New Years.

Reminds me of Trigger Happy TV.

This is really interesting and a prime example of something belonging to that category of well-I-guess-I-never-really-thought-about-it kind of things.

That there exist human beings in this world who wake up in the morning to go to work on creating the oversize face band-aid for the giant (and rather ridiculous) "Nellie" costume.. well, I dunno why but it just makes me smile. You just wonder how many people go to jobs every day serving some weird-ass niche market like this that you'd never even considered.

I find it fascinating.

The Atlanta Hawks have a hawk mascot, and last week when they were playing the Celtics that hawk did a number dressed as Prince. A hawk, dressed as Prince. It was something.

Oh, here it is. For your hawk/Prince enjoyment.

I have mixed feelings about dressing a hawk up as Prince when he was pretty explicit about what his chosen birdform would be

"No mascot thread is complete without KINGLSEY i syed kingsley"

Say what you will about Kingsley but he has something that all these facemakers products are lacking, and that's a real and distinct personality. The facemakers heads all seem to have the most boring and generic faces and expressions. It's like they hired craftsmen to make them but no artists to design them. Each and every face (especially on the custom mascot page looks like something a 4th grader doodled in a notebook.

Kingsley is a breath of fresh air compared. If you send me an email a year from now with 10 of these facemakers costumes plus Kingsley he will be the only one I can confirm that I have or have not seen before.

I keep getting drawn back to Smokey the Bear standing in the back in the group shot on the home page. Everyone else looks happy or excited or fierce, but Smokey is just standing back there with this frozen expression, like, "I help save the forest, and this is the fucking thanks I get. I get shoved in back of some pink ape who gets to stand next to Commander Riker. I'm fourth banana to a fucking lawn gnome. Kill me."

There was a good article recently-ish, an interview with the biggest mascot maker....? I think it was posted to the Blue? I think this is it???

The Man Behind the Mascots Is a Character, Too

Anyway thanks for the link. I love goofy commercial art.

Not exactly a mascot, but someone sent me this a week or so ago & now Trex Tuesday is part of my week. They popped up in the newspaper today. So, two people having fun in large costumes. You can join them in a party--and order your own T Rex costume to wear at the party. Definitely good for a laugh as they explore various activities.
