Ancient ink

Norwegian artist Esther van Hulsen draws a picture of an ancient octopus, using 95 million year old octopus ink (link to original article in Norwegian).

I stopped eating cephalopods a while ago. News like this makes me feel a little bit stronger about it.

That's a lovely picture, though I'm surprised they got permission to remove some of the ink from the fossil! Especially since the ink sac is what made it such a rare fossil. Very cool idea, though.

...and guess what the word octopus is in Norwegian? Blekksprut - which literally translated means 'INKSQUIRT'.
