This takes me back to many, many hours spent playing Snake Byte on ye olde Apple ][+ in the early 80s. Great game.

I was hoping they would go further into how you could tell if a slither was valid or invalid. But you know what they say: snake snake snake snake snake snake snake

Is there where I say it? "Vi did it have to be snakes?" Because, I just said it. And there's nothing you can do to stop me from saying it more.

I did not know that Vi Hart existed and made such amazing videos. The infinite series is teaching me things! Insofar as I can be taught about math!

my guess is that you can't tell if any move is valid or invalid without plotting out the entire snake.

Perfect entertainment for Snake People. Also, I keep finding more things to love about this, like how it sounds like she's calling them "supasnakes."

Ha, also, apparently the Snake People have found the reviews section of the listing for these on Amazon.

my guess is that you can't tell if any move is valid or invalid without plotting out the entire snake.

Pen and paper brute forcing got me to this set of rules:

For snakes where going straight is not an option, and assuming that the snake fails if it touches any portion of itself (even just a corner):

Every snake is made of turns (L or R).
Any valid ordered set of turns is a sequence, including sets of size 1 (L, RR, LLR, LRRL, LRLRL)
The snake is invalid if it contains any sequence with an odd number of turns that is repeated 4 times(minus 1 turn)

Examples:
Sequence has length 1: LLL* or RRR*
Sequence has length 3: LRL LRL LRL LR*
Sequence has length 5: LRLRL LRLRL LRLRL LRLR*
Sequence has length 7: LRLLRRL LRLLRRL LRLLRRL LRLLRR*
Sequence has length 9: LRLRRLLRL LRLRRLLRL LRLRRLLRL LRLRRLLR*

I'm pretty sure that repeated sequences of even length (that don't contain repeated sequences of odd length) can go on ad infinitum, but this comment box is to small to contain I lack the brain/willpower to develop such a proof.
