Did you ever realize that the word "Hallelujah" has the same syllable count and stress pattern as "Waluigi?"
SO!: It's a Cold and a Broken Waluigi - And here, with adjusted lyrics (but without the voice) posted by JHarris (28 comments total) 12 users marked this as a favorite

No, I never realized it but I am also not at all surprised that someone did.

A decade of overuse by TV shows and movies looking for a quick lazy emotional hit didn't manage to completely ruin this song for me, but I think this just about did it. Thanks!

Is a waluigi still $5, same as in town? (Is it something I'd have to own a GameCube to understand?)

--- The Carol of the Waa --- (a favorite!)

Earlier today I learned that my brother-in-law's girlfriend spends her time singing "Fado #5"*and I thought it was the happiest a song would make me today. I was wrong.

This is one of those things where I am not owed anything and hadn't even contemplated it before, yet I am still disappointed it isn't Handel's Waluigi Chorus.

What, a little bit of Amalia in my life
A little Carminho by my side
A little Ana Moura for the ride &c

Here's a quick backgrounder on matters WAA:
  • So, Nintendo has a certain popular plumber you may have heard about, named Mario. This dates to Donkey Kong.
  • In Mario Bros., Nintendo reveals that Mario has a twin brother, Luigi.
  • In Super Mario Land 2, we find out that there is a sort of weird mirror universe version of Mario, Wario. The name is a Japanese pun, "warui" is a Japanese word meaning bad or evil, so, change the first syllable of Mario to that of warui to get Wario. You see.
  • Waluigi, completing the square as the bad version of Luigi, has never been in his own game, but is in a few side-games where the Mario universe is called in.
He's pretty much only in sports games and Mario Party. He's the eternal also-ran, Mario photocopied off of a photocopy of a photocopy, but among some people (myself included) this gives him a certain charm. He'll never be in Smash Bros., but we're still rooting for you, Waluigi.

To ckape, believe me, I searched for it. It feels like it should exist out there, somewhere, but to my knowledge no one's actually done it yet!

I mean, it exists in all of our hearts, but other than that I'm pretty sure it's something she made up because she is amazing.

Trying to keep the thread for CAREENING out of control with the thought of Mambo #5 parodies (which, while awesome, have had their time in the sun here before), here's a collection of the surprisingly popular, entirely insane category of Waluigi Vines.

(Hey, it's still Keep MeFi Weird month, get off my back.)

Did you know? Waluigi is the most popular baby name of 2516 (all genders)

JHarris, Waluigi is one of the characters you can pick in Mario Kart 8 (a sports game I guess). I always use either him, Wario or my Mii.

Oh that Carol of the Waa also just reminded me that the Waluigi strips are my favorite when Brawl In the Family was still active.

This is exactly what both "Hallelujah" and Waluigi deserve.

It's cleverer than even Mitt Romney realizes! Ruiji can mean "similarity" in Japanese, which is why Nintendo thought Luigi would be a funny name for the brother who was then just a palette swap of Mario. Waluigi, then, presumably sounds like it suggests something like "bad copy."

Plus, where the W on Wario's hat can be read as an upside-down M, Waluigi just has an upside-down L on his hat. Hilarious.

(Comment for extreme gaming geeks only!)

It occurs to me that Waluigi wears that hat to obscure the fact that he's a moonlighting Dr. Don.

Upside-down L? No, that's a capital gamma! Which of course is intended to suggest an incomplete digamma, an archaic Greek letter representing the sound... yes, that's right, /w/. And the letter's other name in ancient Greek? Wau.

"Ode to Waluigi" - a poem by fourth-grader Sam Daly which was a winner of the Canadian national 2012 Book Week Writing Contest:
Oh, purple-moustached clever Waluigi.
Thou art such a genius when it is thy time to attack Mario and Luigi!
How thou attach springs to thy shoes, know I not!
Why dost thou not have thy own video fame?
Art thou enraged that thou dost not have one?
Why dost thou fight the Mario brothers?
Thou art negative and wicked when shooting fireballs at thy green plumber, thy foe!
Why art thou always cranky?
Art thy purple knickers in a knot?
Perchance Alvin Earthworm annoyed thou with his YouTube video.
Why art thou so tall and slim?
Perchance a Power Flower fell in you mouth when thou wast a baby.
Why dost thou wear a purple suit?
I like thy violet outfit for its unique hue.
Shouldst thy brother Wario and thou fight so repeatedly?
Is Bowser the Dragon-turtle your fiendish companion?
I dost wonder what it wouldst be like to be friends with Bowser and thou.
Dost thou own the Vicious Petey Piranha Flower?
Dost thou like the kind Princess Peach?
If thou couldst own a Yoshi wouldst thou?
Thou art so sly and crafty our slippery Waluigi.
Dost thou fight Geno the Explorer dangerously?
Why art thou not in Super Smash Bros Brawl?
Perchance thou art sad for being excluded from that rough game.
Why art thou so nimble when thou escape the police?
Thy symbol is an upside down L.
Oh, thou art sneaky, secretive and tricky, mine own Waluigi!

No, I never realized it but I am also not at all surprised that someone did.

In a similar vein, I realized in a coffee shop a few years back that you can sing "four-shot latte" to the tune of Zoot Suit Riot.

It was the most productive I'd been all day.

Appropos nothing, Mr. Bad Example, I think you should sing "four-shot latte" to the tune of Jukebox Hero.
