Because it's 2016 II: Rainbow (and Pink and Blue) Boogaloo

For the first time in history, the pride flag has been raised on Parliament Hill (video), Ottawa. For the first time in history, the Trans Flag has been raised with the Pride Flag at Toronto City Hall.
Ottawa police aren't the federal government. In Canada, flying the trans flag on parliament hill is, iconically, like flying it on the dome of the Capitol Building or the White House.

I was a little sad we choose to use such a weedy flag pole until I realized it was intentionally chosen to enable easy photo-ops.

I think that would be more like flying it on the Peace Tower; they set up a temporary pole on the grounds to fly the flag in this case. Understandably, they don't want to be dealing with special interests (or just interests I guess) flying flags from the official flagpole of the nation.

Trudeau just keeps hitting it out of the park with his theme of inclusiveness. The images from his participation in the Pride Parade here in Vancouver make it is really obvious that this isn't simply a matter of political expediency on his part. He genuinely cares about the people and issues involved, and obviously really enjoys the event. This picture went viral when it was first published. He must be giving his RCMP security-detail heart-attacks.

This is great and I don't want to detract from that, but wow do I ever hate the trans flag. Pink and blue? Really? In fucking pastels?!?

Oh man, the language on Sparkle's website is clearly much older even than their dated Web design.

Eh, it's better than having 8 completely different Nonbinary Pride flags. (I'm sticking with the yellow/white/purple/black even though it's bad heraldry.)

I dunno, that sounds like you might be able to choose one you don't hate, and I'm struggling to see how representing diversity quite so literally is bad...

2. The alternative trans pride flag was actually designed by a Canadian, and has been raised in Canada government before.
