This is what every car trip with my fiancé is like, except I can't sing at all, and I end up doing most of the parts to "One Day More" on my own.

Were Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth not available to do a defying gravity finish?

Missed opportunity.

Of course having Lin Manuel Miranda on was obviously a desperate ploy to get Hamilton tickets. We know your dirty tricks Corden

it was darling from start to finish, and they're all supremely talented but holy crap audra mcdonald can sing the pants off of all of them. it's always fascinating to see a group of totally good singers with one incredible singer who all want the thing to sound good. it's an interesting balancing act on all their parts.

I am kinda depressed that Audra McDonald is basically unknown outside of theater community.

She's got a Sterling pedigree but even then she barely seems to get tv roles much less movie roles.

Looks like she will be in the Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast next year but even then she's the Gardrobe and not Ms Potts.

She stood out as awesome even then.

If you have theater friends, you've been on this car ride.

I have a Broadway husband. My entire life is this car ride, man.

We watched this last night - it was pretty good.

Sadly, Audra McDonald was out when we saw Shuffle Along a couple of days ago, but her understudy was great. Then there was Billy Porter's solo number, which brought the house down.

We will be on the mezzanine of the Richard Rogers tonight!

In September, he said to me "I'm booking tickets for Hamilton in June and we're going," and I was like "Uh, OK, I like New York, sounds good." Little did I know what a Big Deal this would turn out to be. I hadn't even heard the cast recording yet, which I love.

We just looked up what our tickets are reselling for. Holy shit.

I jokingly said "Well, let's resell them - we'll cover our trip and still make a profit." I got a glare that could have melted lead.

Love this! I played my Les Mis karaoke CD in the car to work this morning after watching it (OBVIOUSLY I was singing the whole time - I may have also driven extra slowly...)

I just made everybody watch it on the projector at work and I hadn't even seen it yet. (We were two minutes late into the meeting.)

And god damn Audra McDonald, just god damn.

I feel a deep kinship with the proliferation of DRAMA ARMS on One Day More. Anyone who claims to be able to sing any part of One Day More and not do DRAMA ARMS is a lying liar.

"Well, let's resell them - we'll cover our trip and still make a profit."

I said a variation of this to my daughter as a threat when she was giving me attitude last Wednesday night. Instead, we pulled ourselves together and had THE BEST DAY OF MY WHOLE LIFE on Saturday. We saw Daveed and Oak in Times Square - she went nonverbal, but I called out to them and they turned around and allowed me to babble at them like a schoolgirl. They are so damned good looking. Then we saw the matinee from the (slightly obstructed view but up close so who cares) orchestra seats I bought in November. LIN MADE EYE CONTACT WITH US during Cabinet Battle #2. I cried so hard, so many different times, that tears ran all the way down my neck. Then we came back and did the stage door after the evening performance and she got selfies with Chris Jackson and Rory O'Malley.

But since, I've been so sad because I just want more. I want to see it again and again and again. I know I should be happy that I got to see it once, with that cast, at this time in history - and I am - but part of me will never be satisfied**.

(**sorry)

There's a Tony-watching party at the performing arts center in town, but I think I will have to watch by myself so I can cry again and savor their moment as a delusional person who has developed unhealthy emotional attachments to these talented strangers.

Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow. OH WOW. AUDRA MCDONALD DOES A GREAT JAVERT!

McDonald is the only actor to have won six Tony Awards. She's also the only person to have won Tonys in all four performance categories. Saw her in Porgy and Bess a few years back with Norm Lewis and they blew the roof off the theater.

Thanks so much for posting this. Incredible.

Also, how funny is Jesse Tyler Ferguson during One Day More, waving off Jane Krakowski?

Or headbangs during "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You".

In an exception to the usual rule on comments, y'all may want to check out the Youtube ones - a lot of it is admiration, and once or twice you get someone saying "this is great, but who are these people?" followed by a crapton of theater geeks schooling them but good.

Me too. I can see all-star concerts of Broadway favorites if I want polished performances, but seeing these five act EXACTLY like the rest of us musical theater geeks in a car was the best.

I was thinking the same thing. Her one major TV role (on Private Practice) ended amicably when, by all accounts, she wanted to return to New York, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a personal choice.

"this is great, but who are these people?" followed by a crapton of theater geeks schooling them but good.

When I showed this at work, a woman who I already was crazy about as a work friend only didn't recognize Jesse Tyler Ferguson, a star of one of the biggest sitcoms of the past decade, and I found that extra charming. (She's not an anti-TV person, however, which, is, of course, a deal breaker.)

That was a pretty credible rendition of "Guns and Ships" (a.k.a. The Fastest Song on Broadway) by James Corden. Even Lin-Manuel seemed impressed.

The world deserves more Audra on TV and in movies; not everyone can visit Broadway! And Audra deserves the chance to make more money doing less exhausting work (this Tony number on the joy of TV work come to mind).
