RIP Bud Spencer (born Carlo Pedersoli, 31 October 1929 – 27 June 2016). Italian actor, swimmer, and politician, he rose to international fame playing Trinity's portly half-brother in 1970s spaghetti westerns "They Call me Trinity" and "Trinity is Still my Name", setting off a multi-decade film career with his frequent co-conspirator, Terence Hill.

From a short obit :
With a toned physique he played a member of the Praetorian Guard in Quo Vadis, a Hollywood epic shot in Italy in 1951, but later said he had had no interest in becoming an actor.

Then, when a production company asked him to change his name to something more marketable, Pedersoli put his love of Budweiser beer and the Hollywood actor Spencer Tracey together and became Bud Spencer.

It wasn’t until the late 1960s that his acting career took off when he teamed up with Terence Hill in over 20 films, beginning with God Forgives..I don’t! The duo went on to make international hits such as Ace High in 1968 and They Call Me Trinity in 1970.

I loved those films when I was on the verge of puberty. They were like a foreign version of the 3 Stooges, in the Italian-American West. But boy, the dubbing was so bad.

RIP Bambino, slap a bandito on your way to heaven.

When it was my father's turn to pick at the video club, a lot of times he ended up picking one of his movies with Hill. I may not remember much from them, but I'm sure I've watched a lot of them.

I've also seen a lot of his movies when I was a kid, and remember enjoying them.

I looked up Terence Hill on Wikipedia just now, and apparently he was a swimmer too, at least when he was a child.

"Trinity is Still my Name" yt

my dad was a complex man. very smart. WW2 combat vet. small town boy. I loved him but found him deeply difficult to connect with. He kept everything inside. But I do remember being maybe thirteen and dragging him to see Trinity is Still my Name, because I genuinely thought he'd like it. And he did. He laughed the whole way.

There goes a wonderful piece of my childhood. Bud Spencer and Terence Hill are the closest Italy comes to superheroes. I was actually surprised to find out yesterday that he was always dubbed in the Italian versions too, his Neapolitan accent was deemed too strong for Westerns (HIS VOICE IS A LIE AAAH).

May the afterlife be full of baked beans, you amazing man.

Oh man, those Bud Spencer/Terence Hill westerns were a staple of childhood, roaring with laughter watching them.

Oh crap, I loved these movies as a kid and found them a few years ago on DVD.

Also recommend Dub Spencer and Trance Hill for having the best band name ever.
