Drop it like it's nuts

Looks like he tied a nut to the camera. Once the squirrel got the nut off, he dropped the camera.

Somehow I'm reminded of the barrels in Jaws.

Yup, yt pays ~$1 per 1,000 views, so the ROI on the cost of the nut is pretty high . . .

The black walnut trees on campus have been fruiting impressively for the past few weeks. I am desperately missing the rain forest and spending time observing foraging monkeys. It has been about 90 degrees with about 3 zillion% humidity in Ohio for the past few weeks. I keep getting distracted walking around campus when I catch small arboreal mammals bouncing from branch to branch carrying fruit in their mouths and then really vigorously consuming it. There's so much good social behavior! I'm seeing individuals supplanting each other, listening to different vocalizations, recognizing individuals... They're doing such interesting things with their teeth while they process these really mechanically challenging (and probably chemically challenging) nuts. Observing squirrel behavior has been the best way to take a break from dissertation writing and all the ridiculous terrible things happening. Little skittery pretend monkeys, chewing away in the fake rain forest of university campuses Central Ohio!

If you don't like squirrels, you could instead watch a salt water crocodile, an eagle, a fox, or a sea lion do the same thing. Or you can Google 'animal steals gopro' or something similar, and view the endless varieties. I don't know, animals are nice and all, but it's difficult not to feel that it's all advertising that God's Creatures have been snookered into participating in...

I figured that it was probably set up early on. But the catch at the end was most impressive. And the little running squirrel feet! Squee!

No, sorry, not the best squirrel video right now. That award goes to this little guy escaping from a hungry hawk.

I was waiting for the bass drop at 1:01.

ChuraChura, just squint your eyes and think of them as scansorial euarchontoglires and all will be fine.

Another hot squirrel video... "When Your Pet Squirrel Thinks You're a Tree"

Yep, things are getting very squirrelly.
