I love that by releasing this right after the end of the season (as opposed to using it to hype for a new season about to start) HBO is fully acknowledging that this is for the fans who will be pleased to hear Samuel L. Jackson talking about a thing that they like.

I know at one point, the theory was that Martin was going to finish writing the books while the series was airing. I've read all the books but have been putting off the series because the couple I watched were kinda rapey and meh. Is Martin going to put another book out, or is the upcoming season going to be canon for the books too, or what?

The books and the TV show are running on two independent tracks now, KK, though both camps assure us that they'll be stopping at the same stations, more or less, since the showrunners know the main plot points to come, even if the details are still unknown to all.

The ending(s) should be the same, but in-between, and with minor characters, the show will take its own shortcuts, liberties and so on, much as it did the last season or two. Characters who died a couple of seasons ago on TV are still trotting around in the books, after all.

The novel that seems overdue now, The Winds of Winter, is the second-last in Martin's plan, which means the final A Dream of Spring book, should it ever actually exist, is many, many years away. My hunch is that it may arrive just in time for a Game of Thrones TV reboot sometime in 2029.

With that in mind, we commoners should probably consider the TV show the real story, at this point. Martin's version, if/when it arrives, is more of a special expanded edition.

Samuel L Jackson has carved himself out a pretty interesting little niche hasn't he? Just as long as he says motherfucker.

I wonder how much he got for this, a day's voice work.

Really, there should be the word "rape" every 30 seconds or so. For completeness.
