The Oregon State Fair celebrates oddities like the "curviest vegetable" and the "most misshapen fruit." Fairgoers can marvel over award-winning onions and pumpkins and snap photos of the top pig and llama. This year, the state fair is adding a new attraction: prize-winning marijuana plants.
...the plants will have ribbons just like any other prize-winning crop. The plants will come to the fair having already been judged by a panel of marijuana growers, including Ed Rosenthal, a well-known author and cannabis expert.

Don Morse, chairman of the Oregon Cannabis Business Council, the sponsor of the marijuana exhibit said..."We are not promoting the use of cannabis...We are there to show plants to people over 21 what award-winning cannabis plants look like."
OK Don.

i have an infinite number of jokes here revolving around the arrested adolescent 70s stoner strain naming practice and one such strain being awarded the 5H blue ribbon, as grown by a ten-year old blonde girl who loves horses and marijuana, but it's probably for the greater good if i simply gesture to them, just outside the margin. The jokes are of course entirely fictional.

"Most misshapen llama" was only a category that one year.

I got an e-mail from LinkedIn the other day telling me to 'check out your Connection's new skill' - it was a childhood friend who moved to BC after high school, and the new skill he'd listed on his profile was 'cannabis growing'

Sounds like "a friend indeed."

I haven't seen this guy since 1990, but I did hear through mutual friends years ago this crazy news that he'd done very well at the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, so not a new skill exactly but apparently something that he is good at, and probably in demand right now too.

Wanted to go see the B-52s playing there a week ago: we had a prior commitment, but it woulda been an event. B-52s? At a state fair? There are many ways it's really great to be alive now.

It should go more smoothly than the Pot Pavillion at the Denver County Fair, at least.

I once attended the Poweshiek Iowa County Fair and was delighted to meet the sheep that won the prize for Prettiest Eyes.

How much weed do you have to smoke before you start evaluating sheep for having pretty eyes?

Yeah, the Pot Pavilion at the Denver County Fair was a bust (no pot, for starters), but the fair itself is great. We go every year. It's got the traditional pies and vegetables but it's really for city kids: steampunk, art, music, freak show, diorama contest, poetry contest...and lots and lots of freaky chickens. It's going on this weekend. Drop on by, cousin!

Fuck the pot, where can I see pictures of the curviest vegetables and most misshapen fruit?

...and Alaska, who legalized cannabis at the same time as Oregon, has no stores and no displays at the fair.

But at least we'll have Cheech & Chong.
