AGE OF EMPIRES WHALE!!!! I wonder if I can get the game work in Win 8.1... The whale had its own special sfx stinger, too...

This is an excellent list. Also I learned that the very respectable NOAA had a submarine game among others, and my household is exploring all of them.

Nice! Glad to see the Skies of Arcadia sky-whale on there. Though sad to see it's not flying merrily by or trashing an airship.

Also, wasn't Sin, from FFX, kind of a whale? Like a big messed up spirit whale?

Endless Ocean 1 and 2 should have a lot more screenshots.

I'd forgotten about the whale in Lufia II.

By eerie coincidence, not five minutes ago I was playing Civ IV (for the first time playing it on a TV screen), and was zooming in on the blue whales surfacing in the ocean because I'd never seen them in such detail before. They're very shiny!

For Octodad: Dadliest Catch those are clearly dolphins. If those count, there's a lot of other games missing.

This, people.
This is what we lost with geocities.
This and the "Mr. T ate my balls" web ring.
I'd take a million of these over the median facebook comment.

Also, now I want to play crash bandicoot with a better controller.

Is this awesome? Y/N
Y, obvs.

I love this as much as that frog page linked a while back. Keep meaning to start a sort of Bat-watch on my blog in the vein [sic] hope of finding a game where they aren't just annoying dicks.

More sensibly, examining how X has been represented over several decades of games seems like a worthwhile path of investigation. Great stuff!

Oh man. Zarch. The game that made everyone go 'You can do THAT with an Archimedes?'.

Fatty Whale from Kirby Super Star is a particular favorite. It's a huge whale that smokes a pipe and wears a sailor suit. There are many enemies more Kirbyey than that!

THE FISH, from Balloon Fight, is a jolly foe. It's so happy as it gobbles up your guy!

I'm surprised that this list has two Ecco games but not the original two Genesis games, which had blue whales in them. On the other hand, I'm amused that the whales from Dishonoured counted.

Is that really the name?

Well, not really, but it is what the title screen says. I suspect that rendering the title that way was a very minor joke about the semi-serious style of Kojima's games.

Seriously, no King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella? That whale is the most memorable whale in all of videogame history. Also the most traumatizing. I can't put a number on how many hours I spent trying to tickle the exact pixel on the whale's uvula at just the right moment to avoid sliding down its tongue again, so that Rosella would be sneezed out to victory. Pretty sure it was a lot of hours. Goddamn whale.
