The Ladies (previously) have survived the demise of The Toast and will be releasing a book in 2018.

OK well I enjoyed that even though I get the vague sense that that's "problematic".

And not knowing if I'm allowed to say that or not is exactly why I enjoyed reading it.

Poor Gracie!

I personally don't find this Problematic. It's a portrait of a subset of women, the natural partners of bros (H. sapiens fraternitensis). If we, as women, can't make fun of other women upon the merits, we leave the field to those who won't.

If Jonathan Franzen can write books, so can we! We can all write it together!

Wait, this is satire?

I basically can't get through The Ladies without ctrl+f'ing Gracie and making sure she'll anchor me back to sanity at some point in the read.

I mean, I'm gonna buy the book because I love a good survival horror.

Yeah, by the end of any given Hey Ladies column I'm like one text away from a full-blown anxiety attack. I'm thrilled they're writing a book but I dunno how I'm gonna handle it to be totally honest.

As a person who unwittingly found herself in a Hey Ladies style email chain in the past month (complete with a Bird by Bird recommendation (always good) and a participant who hooked up with the guy who bought her couch over Craigslist (not recommended)), I officially grant this Not Problematic status.

We had a spirited debate over the problematic-ness of Hey Ladies in the previously thread, and while I totally see the validity of the critiques, I also think it's consistently brilliant social satire, which somehow manages to make more fun of the culture that produced these exchanges than the women themselves.
