Can’t stop what the Black Plot Design has done

The Black Plot (trigger warning for lyrics), the new song by stoner metal masters High On Fire, boasts a trippy, Heavy Metal-esque animated video by Skinner, the artist behind many Mastodon album covers and their cat-filled video for Asleep In The Deep.

(New video. The song is the opening track on Luminiferous, which was released in June last year. The Falconist is my personal favourite from that album, but it's all good.)

Ralph Bakshi's Wizards? Frank Frazetta doing He-Man meets Cthulhu? Blistering metal?

It's like Stranger Things for Heshers.

Ten fucking stars.

This is relevant to my interests. In every single way.

The best track on Luminiferous is The Sunless Years, and that is established by peer-reviewed metal journals.

Am I correct that metal, once ground zero for idiot machismo and pretense, having spent a couple of decades in the wilderness, met up over a campfire with its southern and stoner cousins, and is now - both musically and culturally better now than it's been since the 1970's?

And, yes, I'm looking at you, High on Fire, Baroness, Mastodon, Kylesa, The Sword, Pelican, Red Fang, etc. etc. etc.

Black Tusk: God's on Vacation [NSFW naked monster breasts]

(I think there are a lot of better songs on the album but this is the one with a video.)

Meh, I reject this idea that metal was ever this half-wit thing that needed the wise people of other genres to come teach it some manners.

Yeah unless you're thinking of 80s hair metal I would suggest mostly you weren't paying attention until now.

Metal has always been good. I mean, Baroness and Mastodon's best work is about a decade old.

Yes. This rules. Skinner showed me a preview recently. It's a mind melter.
