Didn't he jail a lot of his non-supporters after the failed coup?

Just as a historical point of comparison : The Sivas massacre was an effort by Sunnis to kill Aziz Nesin along with Alevi artists and intellectuals.

The purges since the coup attempt have been, as the BBC puts it, "staggering". But long before this summer, Erdoğan/AKP had been firing and arresting police and military by the thousands. Remember too the tremendous number of journalists arrested or threatened, and how the government has permanently shut down many TV stations and newspapers that don't toe the party line.

I heard a thing on NPR the other day where they are walking back the coup arrests by the thousands. Apparently a bunch of the people arrested are needed to keep the place running.
