I only spent a couple of months in Tokyo, but I was always lost. Not a bad thing as a traveler, but trying to find an "address" for a job interview was pretty frustrating. "Turn left at the tall reflective building; turn right at the barbershop pole; turn left at the love hotel billboard..." I would do all these things and find out I got out at the wrong exit at the subway, and was still able to follow the instructions--but to no avail, obviously. A couple of kilometers in the wrong direction.

Anyway, great photos.

To be fair, I've spent my adult life in Japan but Shinjuku is an unnavigable nightmare designed to trap those hapless fools who dare attempt to find their way around unguided

These are lovely. Very evocative! Makes you feel the chaos and lights of the place with their tonal range and composition. Thanks for posting to the front page.

Ah, my second fifth home.

And exactly how it looks stumbling home at 4am.

Thanks all. This was my first time in Japan (after almost twenty years of saying "one day...") and i enjoyed it very much. Easy to see why there are so many prolific Japanese photographers.

Not so bad once you get out of the JR station ...

I felt very overwhelmed and always lost when I was there for a couple weeks, but the longer I've been back the more I want to return.

Not so bad once you get out of the JR station ...

One of my favorite places I went was a cozy little coffee shop near the JR station - Tajimaya Coffee. If anyone is visiting and likes intimate spaces, kind people, delicious coffee, beautiful teacups, and rules against cell phone use, it's the place to be.

I got so lost in the Shinjuku JR station last year I had to get a taxi back to the right side of it. I can't wait to go back.
